We should just become our own separate place like Bristol.

An interesting event at Lawson (a few kilometres west from Maison Dujon) yesterday. A light aircraft got into some sort of trouble. The pilot activated the aircraft's parachute and floated he, his passengers and the craft itself onto someone's front fence.

Good Lord! I'd never even heard of parachutes for planes.

Yes, Monty, they have been around for a wee while - but only on light aircraft. I heard somewhere or other yesterday that this 'craft was a 'demo' machine being spruiked around this country. The identification letters on the side of the aeroplane would seem to confirm that. All locally registered aircraft carry a 'VH' prefix.

I'm glad it wasn't just me. Amazing! Not sure I'd have believed it if I hadn't seen it for myself

Does this mean I shouldn't have the MMR?

Aye, thebish, there's all sort of things to be done with basic data sets. Perhaps someone could come up with a correlation between Slinkies sold in the U.K. to the number of hospital admissions as a result of individuals tumbling head over heels down stairs.

love this kind of thing - words that have no obvious single-word translation in English...

http://www.boredpanda.com/untranslatabl ... jana-iyer/

e.g.

the Pascuense word "Tingo" - to gradually steal all the possessions from a neighbour's house by borrowing and not returning!

and..

bakku-shan - the Japanese word for a beautiful girl as long as she is being viewed from behind!

or (for WtW)

the Japanese word "Tsundoku" - the act of leaving a book unread after buying it, typically piling it together with other such unread books!

That Japanese one has BOBFOC and my personal fave 'kronenbourg' as almost if not quite equivalents.
