Just find a gyro place down a side alley with no tourists. Can't remember which I went in, but it was bloody good!Salford Trotter wrote:We did visit the old town and its quite spectular and we travelled up the cable car to see the panoramic view of Dubrovnik, well worth it. It is, though not comparable with the typical stuff in the UK. The pitta bread is a class above as wellBruce Rioja wrote:See, I'd never heard of Gyro or Gyro sandwiches until I was in NY. Today I am happy about Arsenal winning the FA Cup (still) and seeing my new chickens enjoying the sunshine for the first time in their lives.
Meet Wembley, Gunner and Wenger.

In Belgium and Holland they have something called a Dürüm, whereby the elephant's leg is made up of chunks of yer actual meat and not that reconstituted bilge that they serve up over here. Very nice with Belgian fries and aioli, oh yes.

Best gyro I ever had was in Corfu. The pita was dunked in some seasoned oil before being grilled over the coals. The meat was proper seasoned lamb, joined by yoghurt and tomato. A large side of fries seasoned in some type of oregano and salt mix. I'm not ashamed to admit having 3 in one evening

Re: Today I'm happy about......
There are some goodish ones in the UK, though nothing that compares to the proper Greek (and I'd imagine Turkish) stuff.
The stuff you get here that comes off in congealed long strips?

Gunner and Wenger are looking a bit worse for wear.Gooner Girl wrote:Today I am happy about Arsenal winning the FA Cup (still) and seeing my new chickens enjoying the sunshine for the first time in their lives.

You're not getting clucky again are you, GG? There's not much worse in the farm yard than a broody hen.

The question now is 'will Wenger survive'? I'm afraid that I find it highly amusing when reading about football managers being 'sacked' because they didn't win a trophy or finish top of the league. When I'm laughing I'm happy.

Will Wenger survive? Well he has the monkey of '9 years without a trophy' off his back finally. Journos are going to have to be more creative with their headlines now. Looks like Sagna will go but if we replace him effectively and sign a couple of decent strikers I'm quite optimistic about next season. We led the premier league longer then anyone else this season, normally we fall away around November, this season it was February. That's progress of sorts. Our big losses against close opposition still concern me though, I dunno what happened there and if it can be sorted... We shall see.
Sod the World Cup, bring on next season!

There are quite a few cruise liners operating in the Mediterranean and it makes you wonder how some of the local economies could survive without the revenue they bring. Our taxi driver who took us to The Acropolis said that around 5k visitors a day visit this site in the low season most of which come from the cruise liners paying €12 each to visit. That rises to 20k a day in the high season...not bad for a few bits of marble and stone.jaffka wrote:Different ship, they are with P & O.Salford Trotter wrote:Norwegian Jadejaffka wrote:What ship are you on?Salford Trotter wrote:We did visit the old town and its quite spectular and we travelled up the cable car to see the panoramic view of Dubrovnik, well worth it. I believe that most of the cruise ships we take in the winter in the Caribbean cross the Atlantic in May to service the Med., the Baltic and even 12 day trips round British ports (though I cannot imagine paying for that!). The large majority of these lines, including P & O, Princess and Holland America are owned by Carnival. Some few go to the Far East and Australia.Salford Trotter wrote:There are quite a few cruise liners operating in the Mediterranean and it makes you wonder how some of the local economies could survive without the revenue they bring. I guess it'll be one of his current system of extremely gentle interviews (did you see him with the druggie Co-op bank man ? ... it was disgraceful).Bruce Rioja wrote:Interviewing him or talking all over him? Nonetheless, should be worth a watch.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

No, missed that one, Bobo. Will be worth a watch if the prick remembers that it's Berusconi's answers to his questions that we're interested in the most.bobo the clown wrote:I guess it'll be one of his current system of extremely gentle interviews (did you see him with the druggie Co-op bank man ? ... it was disgraceful).Bruce Rioja wrote:Interviewing him or talking all over him?
