It's one where my sig seems to apply. If the gun mortality stats can't convince them that people are in fact dangerous, not protective, then there's no point trying. It's an issue beyond reason.
Let's all have the right to bear nuclear arms. Nuclear weapons don't kill people. People detonating nuclear weapons kill people.
Of course guns kill people.
That statement should be. 'Guns aren't to blame for killing people. People are to blame for killing people'.
And then the next statement should be, 'Don't give guns to people'.
Lighten up, bitches!

Yep. It's so unnecessary.Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:I know I shouldn't bother, but it makes me mad that innocent folk die in their thousands due to this lunacy.
And GtE, I thought about going with that, but then I got angry!

I must have it wrong. Not long back you were handling a gun at the family shoot-up. Did it make you want to kill somone just by having it in your hands? Wow , that angry for you.Prufrock wrote:Yep. If you can't see the difference between clay pigeon shooting in a supervised environment with a qualified instructor and selling guns in supermarkets then I fear we're wasting our time.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I've been into a few gun shops in Atlanta. If anyone thinks that the stuff that they sell in there is for peoples self-defence then they've another think coming. The only time I've seen more barbaric equipment was in Leeds Armouries.
May the bridges I burn light your way
Re: Today I'm angry about.....
One guy I met has an AR-15 Assault Rifle as his 'home defence' weapon. I asked how it was for self defence, he said 'because it has a torch on it so I can see any home invaders before I shoot them'. So there you go.Bruce Rioja wrote:I've been into a few gun shops in Atlanta. If anyone thinks that the stuff that they sell in there is for peoples self-defence then they've another think coming. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
How very patronising of you, despite the wink in my post. But please ignore my point about people, we're all potential killers after all. Not sure where I advocated selling any form of weapons openly, just made the point that guns don't pull the trigger themselves. The punishment for deliberately using a weapon to kill someone should be so severe that no one wants to fire a gun outside a target club.Prufrock wrote:If you can't see the difference between clay pigeon shooting in a supervised environment with a qualified instructor and selling guns in supermarkets then I fear we're wasting our time.
Oh, and I was shooting at clays fifty years ago for what it's worth.

I didn't ignore your point about people, I addressed it, pointing out that it's twee nonsense. No-one has suggested guns pull their own trigger. No-one is blaming guns, as moral entities, for gun deaths. That doesn't mean guns don't kill people.

Also, the same land that lets mentally ill people buy guns in supermarkets is the same land that has the death penalty. That severest of penalties doesn't seem to have worked. None of those other countries have the death penalty, but they do have gun control.
Here's another frame of reference (the one to the left of America is the Democratic Republic of Congo):

^^ So, we're bottom of the fckg league again. I demand a Royal Commission.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Brilliantly timed and delivered, if I may say.
Always good to see a lapsed socialist squirm about donning the tweed too.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
I'd be interested to see the stats (if such stats exist) of how many murders are committed with weapons that are legally owned. And I don't mean it has to be the legal owner who does the killing.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
