Bolton Council have just approved plans for that mahoosive mosque near the Tramways. Doesn't effect me one iota, like, but I envisage something of a rumpus coming up.

There was indeed. There's also been a FB page set up which I see one or two of my less savoury acquaintances have signed up to.thebish wrote:i think there was an EDL-type demo there last week...Bruce Rioja wrote:Bolton Council have just approved plans for that mahoosive mosque near the Tramways. Do they still have the pink vacancies paper with those jobs that have already been stitched up and the blue one full of those that nobody wants?

The internal and external vacancy lists? No, they got shut of them years ago. Don't even bother looking nowadays. They're only offering 12 months at a time on most posts.Bruce Rioja wrote:Burnden Paddock wrote:Protests outside t'Town Hall this afternoon. Them's em. Most of them were for an 'initial' 12 months 30 years ago (that I know of).Burnden Paddock wrote:The internal and external vacancy lists? No, they got shut of them years ago. Off to Blackpool Pleasure Beach for the day. The 'pleasure' element slightly mitigated by having 486 teenagers in tow, but good fun anyway. Don't know how I'll cope when I get a real world job.

* You couldn't pay me enough to accompany that many teenagers anywhere.

Who the fck has decided that decanting 486 teenagers into Blackpool was a bright idea. The chances of 20 or 30 teachers controlling that are zero.
I shall watch BBC North West and Granada Reports with interest this evening.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

We don't control them, we just let the buggers loose, and threaten them with water boarding etc if they leave the venue. Been queuing for the big one 30 mins now and getting bored!bobo the clown wrote:Who the fck has decided that decanting 486 teenagers into Blackpool was a bright idea. Just seen a video of the meeting (via Bolton News). The protesters did nothing to come across as sensible well-behaved folk with genuine points. Giving the finger to the cameraman, kicking chairs around and howling four letter abuse isn't going to change anything. Perfect stuff for the Angry Thread.Burnden Paddock wrote:Protests outside t'Town Hall this afternoon. Came back to the office to find most of my colleagues watching from the windows. Was waiting for that from Finbarr White. Went on that ride with my ex a few years back and she actually cried in sheer terror at the top. A few mates cruelly suggested it was because she was unused to riding a big one. Wife once put the hoojahs up me by having a panic attack at the top of that horse-riding thing, "Grand National"?...She wanted to get off there and then, over a hefty drop of nothing but the rail. Had to hold on for dear life both to her and the horse.....not fun...

Re: Today I'm neither Angry nor Happy about....
had an experience today that made me think...
I have been sent to minister to a congregation in Sidmouth for a year.. someone gave me a slip of paper last week with a note on it saying that a lovely old bloke called Rex was in a nursing home and would appreciate being taken communion. I often forget these things or put them off or delay them - but yesterday, as i knew i was going into sidmouth today i phoned the nursing home and got his room telephone number and called him - and he answered - quite chirpy - and said he would love me to come - and could I come at 11am.
so - that's what i did.
when i arrived - there was a concerned gaggle of staff - and Rex had taken a big turn for the worse - he was in heart failure. his daughter was there - she invited me in and Rex said he still wanted us to share communion - so we did - the three of us - very relaxed and simply. He was agitated when i arrived and drifting in and out of awareness - but as I read the story of the Emmaus Road - he calmed completely and his eyes brightened and he looked right at me as i read. he joined in the prayers and received the bread and wine without problems... we chatted a bit more - he took my hand and squeezed it hard - looking right into my eyes and thanked me. his daughter came out with me to talk - and said she expected he was close to the end - so i gave her my card in case she needed me...
i left.
half an hour later - she called to say he had died - very peacefully and calmy.
i love my job - it is so humbling - and such a privilege to be with people at such times.
