Not half as much as Major and the Socialists have, she may have made some concessions but on this scale as we have now no chance!thebish wrote:Hoboh wrote:thebish wrote:I guess now that Cameron has really shown the extent of his influence and alliance-building skillz in Europe, we can be confident about him successfully renegotiating the treaty in the UK's favour... Re: The Politics Thread
Actually, and rather disingenuously, Thatcher used European help and subsidy to destroy certain aspects of our (Northern) manufacturing base, thereby achieving her dual aim of destroying the unions. In a spectacularly baby-with-bath water hammer/walnut combo.
What was that noise? Hoboh's head exploding?

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Sarcasm isn't big or clever, but...
I am sure that friend-of-David_Cameron, multi-millionaire tory party donor, friend to cabinet ministers who attend his country estate shooting parties, former tax-dodging-exile, David Ross, is in line for the top OFSTED job because he is the best man for the job...

it's hardly uncommon for someone to have zero interest in the life/career of a local councillor... each to their own, I say!
maybe you're just a bigger local anorak politico than Insane is?

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: The Politics Thread
I can see why Hoboh votes UKIP given this sort of anecdotal rhetoric that Farage has come out with today....
So, because of one instance that he personally has been involved in, Farage is setting out his policies on GP pay. Bugger evidence and consultation, Farage will base his policies on I reckons.....Giving his reasoning for capping GPs' pay, Mr Farage told a caller: "I speak as somebody who was misdiagnosed for six weeks with a malignant tumour and kept going back every Monday to be told, you know, take the tablets and go away. So there's good and bad as there are in all walks of life.
"I'm not saying we shouldn't pay GPs well but what I am saying is they got the most massive pay increase under Blair and those that have turned their local surgeries effectively into their own private fiefdom and businesses, are taking too much money out of this system.
"I don't mind GPs earning £100,000 a year... But I have got a problem with those that are earning multiples of that."

Lord alone only knows what his policies on bankers would be if he followed that logic.
