LOL indeed, she lives in Spain and for some deranged reason thinks leaving a teenager in her bungalow on his own is not going to lead to regular parties, that will obviously result in damage and the locals unhappy that the peace of their village has been broken. In reality she knows I am a sad lonely type who hardly has any friends that live local, so her property will remain just fine as will the peace of the village.Burnden Paddock wrote:FFS. Friday, I approached a set of traffic lights turning red. Slowed to a halt in the outside lane and stopped. One white van in front of me. Other side of the traffic lights - which I couldn't see at the time - was coned off in the outside lane. Van driver, not paying attention decides to reverse down three lane carriageway straight into me, despite me hitting the car-horn. He gets out apologises and gives me his details etc. and off we trot. On getting home, I look at the car and there's not much damage - cracked number plate and scuffed bumper.
Saturday, I ring the car insurance, to check where I'm at with the policy excess etc. said to them, I wasn't sure whether to pursue a claim as the value was likely to be fairly low - might not even reach the excess value, probably just needed settling outside. Bastards then told me that I'd lose 5 years of my no claims as "fault" hadn't been determined yet, which now really means I have no choice but to press on with the insurance claim - just to try and get 1) any excess back that I've paid out and 2) restore my no-claims - which might be tricky if the other guy has a rethink and says I went into the back of him whilst he was stationary.

Important that you never inform insurance compies of anything unless you are going to make a definate claim, it cost a company I worked for 10 grand because my idiot no2 did that whilst I was on holiday, needless to say he didn't last long in the job!malcd1 wrote:Not good Worthy. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
That is very poor advice and one that I would not advise. There is an obligation to disclose all relevant and necessary information to the insurer for them to make an informed judgement. Do not fail to disclose information or else your policy will be voided and the claim will not be paid.Hoboh wrote:Important that you never inform insurance compies of anything unless you are going to make a definate claim, it cost a company I worked for 10 grand because my idiot no2 did that whilst I was on holiday, needless to say he didn't last long in the job!malcd1 wrote:Not good Worthy. With regards your incident, Worthy. I thought the discount you receive will be a 'no claims discount'. If you do not make a claim then you should not lose your discount. I would check again with them. Of course they may still deem you a high risk and increase your premiums.

What the w@nkers said was, that even though I'd not made a claim, I'd raised an incident where currently "fault" wasn't attributed to either party...malcd1 wrote:That is very poor advice and one that I would not advise. Re: Today I'm angry about.....
The most laughable conversation I've had with insurance company went something like this....
Saleswoman at Identikit money-for-old-rope-insurers "Hi, welcome to blah blah blah blah how can I help"
Me (for it is I) "Hi, I've just phoned up to inform you I'll not be renewing as I've found someone else who'll do the same job for nearly 300 quid less than you've quoted my renewal"
SW "Thats a shame, are you sure you don't want to reconsider and stay with us?"
Me "If you're offering to match the other quote, by all means, it'll save me some hassle of moving stuff around"
SW "Oh no, our policy is not to match quotes, I was just wondering if you wanted to stay with us for the good service we've provided you with over the last 3 years"
Me "Are you being serious?"
SW "Yes, why?"

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
Had a similar case Worthy, insurance guy asked if I was making a claim, I said I wasn't sure snd never fit back to them. Depends if you trust the guy to be honest about it. I was advised by a mate who works in the industry to just leave it because the copper who had ploughed into me had concocted a complete pack of lies and the best I could hope for was shared blame which would cost me a lot for several years. The police made no claim so neither did I and just scrapped the car and bought another. Never mentioned it again when applying for insurance and have never had any comeback so it either wasn't logged by my insurance company or wasnt considered important enough to flag up as a porky pie.

Well then if I am not going to make a claim please do tell me just what business it is of the insurance company and how will they fail to pay out on a non-existent claim?malcd1 wrote:That is very poor advice and one that I would not advise. They flagged up the company due to a minor incident over which nothing more than an inquiry was made and the premium went up
Re: Today I'm angry about.....
That's what I feared Hoboh, it's fecking outrageous. So I never mentioned it and would have just claimed I thought I didn't need to if it was flagged up at all. It never has been, but then I guess they'd keep quiet until I claimed and then shaft me. I have no problem with lying about such things.

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
It is called non-disclosure or misrepresentation. You must disclose all relevant information to the risk for which they are seeking cover. If you have have a couple of bumps in your car (both your fault) in the last year but each time you have agreed to not go through the insurance companies, then the insurer are not being given all the information for the policy. This is not just the cost of the insurance but also whether they will be willing to to insure you or the risk.Hoboh wrote:Well then if I am not going to make a claim please do tell me just what business it is of the insurance company and how will they fail to pay out on a non-existent claim?malcd1 wrote:That is very poor advice and one that I would not advise. This does not matter whether it is a flood, fire or arson where a building or business is involved. It is your strict duty to disclose this information or as I mentioned above, you run the risk of the policy being cancelled and you not being insured.
By the way I do work for an insurance company but I am not an underwriter. I know very little about insurance, claims or the policy itself. My role is to prevent a claim in the first place by offering advice on mainly fire risks.

So to sum up, apart from being obliged to get road insurance. we should just feck you sharks off then.
BTW change of circumstance is not concrete and many insurance companies have come unstuck, eventually, by this.
Money lenders, insurance companies, whose the biggest sharks?
I just knew you worked for one of them

Re: Today I'm angry about.....
The company I work for are mainly a commercial insurer. The real shitty end is the domestic and car insurance. Everything is on price and I'm afraid you get what you pay for.
Almost nothing you purchase is based on cost alone. No one would purchase a car based on the cheapest one they can find. You find out how much you can afford and try to find one with low mileage or engine size or age. Yet most people buy their insurance (car, household, personal and travel) based on the cheapest policy they can find.
This invariably has the least cover.
Was it that obvious that I work for an insurance company.
