Re: The Politics Thread
Of all the views on the religious aspect, Pru hammered a nail when he said if it is about land, it's about specific land and not just any land. If the Jewish nation were offered Scotland, Ireland or the Maldives if they gave up the Holy Land, my money says they'd flatly refuse them all. "This land, is mine, God gave this land to me" The words to the Exodus theme say it all. It's a four thousand year old covenant of faith.
I looked for a view that wasn't just my opinion and came up with this: This explains it very clearly. A Jewish viewpoint written by Jews.
http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jso ... lejew.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Israel apart from being the land that contains all the locations that Christians, Jews and some Muslims hold dear in their religions, is the promised land; the Jewish homeland, the place where Christ was born, lived and died. The reason they want to expand the borders is so that the Jewish nation can gather under one roof (idealistically) and even those who live elsewhere can call it their spiritual home. Political aspects, power aspects and whatever else, without religion the whole Jewish nation might well up tents to outer Mongolia.

I agree, totally.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Er...Yes...I think so. A Jew can be an atheist (indeed a number of my friends are) and will still be a Jew. I don't think a Christian or Muslim can be an atheist. Ethnicity is part of Judaism which it is not in other major religions. The Holocaust was not religious discrimination, it was racism.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:So long as it is made clear as to which Jewish you refer to, it isn't.Montreal Wanderer wrote: I also feel it may be a mistake to define Judaism purely as a religion - it seems broader than that.
For example it is quite plain that Arab and Muslim can be easily separated, whilst Jew and Jewish is much more intertwined. There are very few Jews who aren't Jewish and even fewer non-Jews who are Jewish.
That's not a leopard!

The Boris Roadshow is heading back to Westminster.

I have a feeling we might want to hold our hands up on this one, again.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

No, doubt it, Tony Blair will tell us the truth once again and we'll be entirely free of responsibility...Lord Kangana wrote:I have a feeling we might want to hold our hands up on this one, again.

Oh Hum, although I agree with this I just wonder how it sits with the liberals, kill folk to save folk, all life is sacred.

Well there are thousands upon thousands of innocent people trapped on a mountain. And aggresors below who want to kill them. So I think force if directed properly is justified. But thankfully Obama isn't Hoboh and is talking about appropriate targeted force rather than nuking millions of innocent people to death to get rid of a few not-rights.Hoboh wrote:http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/a ... ainst-isis

So I'm fairly content with the approach outlined.

Now, why should your opinion on what is justifiable be any more valid than hoboh's approach (leaving the nuke option on one side because its not really a starter).
