You cannot put the genie back in the bottle.

If you look closely, they conveniently miss out the Romanian and Bulgarian influx, nor do they take into account how many of the indigenous population cannot find work because of them and they actually do say that total immigration cost £120 billion pa.Worthy4England wrote:Aye I was waiting for him to post that one too...Bruce Rioja wrote:Not sure how he's missed the one about EU migrants paying in a shitload more than they've taken out?!thebish wrote:Hoboh - are you on some kind of anti-EU media-watch alert programme that notifies you of any anti-EU-type stories so you can get angry about them - or do you spend most of the day trawling the Guardian and the BBC and the Mail to find such stories?

How did you manage to get from Bulgarians to Amazon in one sentence? You do understand the difference?
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

Yes, silly. Amazons come from Brazil which is only on the fringes of Europe.Lord Kangana wrote:How did you manage to get from Bulgarians to Amazon in one sentence? You do understand the difference?

The EU state of nations, all in it together or maybe not.

Re: The Politics Thread
I think the most interesting stats were the following.
Non-EU immigrants have cost the UK nearly £120bn in a 16 year period since 1995. Who are these and why do they cost so much? They can't all be seeking asylum.
The ones who really take more from the pot are the nationalised British people who cost us £591bn.
So if we get rid of the non-EU immigrants and British people, the UK would be looking very rosy.
In other words, European immigrants have contributed £5bn more in taxes that they take out since 2004.EEA immigrants had made a fiscal contribution of £4.4bn between 1995 and 2011, non-EEA immigrants had made a negative net contribution of £118bn, and British people had made a negative net contribution of £591bn

Re: The Politics Thread
You may recall some bright spark in the home office in 2003 predicting that around 5,000 - 13,000 people would come into the UK from the new Eastern European EU member states.
Well, the report saying that we're vastly better off due to all this seems to have been written by him. How he has the nerve to express any opinions, let alone be listened to and taken seriously is beyond me. Talk about trying to prove your own bias.

A little like someone saying there would be no riots now suggesting there are economic benefits to be had from broken glass.
I leave you to your own opinions. Nothing anyone says will change them anyway.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Freedom of movement is Merkels trauma from her childhood, it's a shrink she needs not a position of power.

You can't actually read can you? And your maths is clearly not a strong point. I think we've identified a problem.Hoboh wrote:http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014 ... -ucl-study

The original report that Bruce linked says that New EU migrants (that's those that come from the 10 countries that joined in 2004), contribute £5bn. And the link you posted says that those migrants from the original 15 EU countries contribute £15bn.
That's 5 PLUS 15....not 15 lost. Damned uneducated Brits. Could we replace Hoboh with a Lithuanian with a degree? I think we should....

I think the Lithuanian's degree needs to be in media studies or hoboh will not be satisfied.Worthy4England wrote:You can't actually read can you? And your maths is clearly not a strong point. I think we've identified a problem.Hoboh wrote:http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014 ... -ucl-study

Re: The Politics Thread
Just seen George Osborne trying to come across as a tough nut. Oh dear. Get the chequebook out, David.

May the bridges I burn light your way
Re: The Politics Thread

If you see this man inform the Police immediately, he is a cheat, con man and a liar also extremely dangerous.

I've paid it for love dear!
Re: The Politics Thread
Turns out that's not, in fact, true, and we CAN all in fact rely on Elle to be our defender of women's rights. So that's good.

If you were suddenly faced with the sack in a place like that you'd change your tune just as quickPrufrock wrote:Turns out that's not, in fact, true, and we CAN all in fact rely on Elle to be our defender of women's rights. So that's good.

Re: The Politics Thread
I don't make a habit of defending George Osbourne but....
The press can't now complain that he's included the automatic rebate in talking about how much the bill has been cut. If it was automatic, then why were you reporting it as £1.7bn then you pricks? You can't have it both ways, either.
