A Jewish Kosher shop in Paris is now under siege, with hostages and reportedly two dead. You can toss antisemitism into your squabble now as well look.

I'm now going to leave this thread alone. I've made my point and as Monty says I'm not going to influence anybody's opinion on this.

When an entire territory run by Muslims on pure Muslim principles under the chiefest of chief Muslims states this I find it difficult to understand the ' they're just individuals' argument
The opinion of ISIS, and the opinion of almost no Muslims, not even the mad ones. People at various points on the wanker scale to have said that ISIS are dicks include: Saudi Arabia, Iran, Al-fecking-Qaeda and Amber from my office, official spokesperson of "Muslim Opinion" who would like to point out that ""Asking me to condemn the obviously condemnable presumes my basic moral code is in question. I refuse to take part in this." She then also pointed out that she does definitely condemn it too, given some people are still wondering.
Does Amber wear a niqab? Is she does I'll take her opinion with a large pinch of salt. If she doesn't she clearly in as much denial as you are as to how much ISIS represents fundamentalist Sunni opinion... not that they have a monopoly on killing cartoonists... I still remember the weak wristed liberal hand wringing response when the Ayatollah called on all Muslims as their duty to kill Salman Rushdie. Does Amber think they're not Muslims either, you know the millions who took part in the Islamic Revolution?
She wears the hijab (the scarf) but not the face one.

How does her not wearing a niqab mean she's in denial about ISIS representing fundamentalist Sunni opinion? She's not a Sunni fundamentalist. I'm presuming you don't wear a niqab, and I'm guessing you don't think you're in denial about how much ISIS represent fundamentalist Sunni opinion.

She's a normal, sweet, east London chatterbox, a normal person, as are all the other Muslims in our office. Yes, she believes that the Quran is the final word of god delivered through his prophet Mohamed but she hasn't come to the poisonous conclusion that this justifies murder. I certainly agree with you that the ideas that underpin Islam are capable of leading to people doing horrible things but the idea that they always do, and that all Muslims secretly agree with it, is absolute bollocks and every time you sputter into a staccato rage of generalisation you show yourself up as not having a clue what you're talking about.

I haven't actually spoken to Amber yet about the latest attack (I was being facetious and lifting the quote above) but I know she'll say what she always does - namely that these attacks are awful and don't represent the views of the vast majority of Muslims. Who knew - normal people think mass murder is awful?

(Quite un-Islamic name she has there mind, maybe ask Fatima would be more appropriate)
Not particularly given the word "amber" comes from Arabic!

Hostage-takers all dead.

At least four hostages dead.

Some escapees from the supermarket, and the other hostage apparently alive.

Impressive work from the French police tbh dealing with two hostage scenarios at once, but yet another sad day :(.

Absolutely. From what I can gather the four were killed by the hostage takers on their way in. All will out in the wash, I suppose, but if that's the case then what a superbly executed exercise by the French authorities.

I'm surprised, to be honest, that the chase didn't last for f*cking days on that road, what with no-one ever allowing you to pull out, and it basically being the worlds largest tailback-on-a-slip road.

Slipping under the radar this week was news that Boko Haram (another coincidentally Islamic extremist group) murdered 2,000 (two THOUSAND!) Nigerians :(.

Apologies etc.

Ha! Tbf I think their full name (or at least this is what they're referred to as EVERY SINGLE time they're mentioned) is "Boko Haram (which means Western Education is sinful)".

Of which I find this to be a truly realistic view, from an American Muslim spokesman:

"This is not about religion. This is about political power, this is about uneducated, ignorant youth who are being manipulated by clerics and extremists."

Generalisations are a perfectly acceptable means of communicating a principle... one could generalise that the people on this forum are fans of Bolton Wanderers for example, and give generalisations about them. Of course 100% of the group do not fall into whatever he erslisation is made, but it can still be legitimate.

The Times this morning has a quote which illustrates my point.
Quoting an anonymous, for fear of reprisals from his own community, Muslim in Paris, the newspaper stated this a typical statement from all the Muslims they'd spoken to...
"Like everyone else I think the terrorists who killed all those people have nothing to do with Islam. But those who died did something that no one should do. They insulted the Prophet. You shouldn't be surprised at the reaction. It's one thing to insult a man, but it's another to slight the Prophet"

Talk about contorted logic... Nothing to do with Islam but you expect to get killed if you diss Islam.
That's not a leopard!

Saying that the terrorists aren't muslims and don't follow Islam is shoving heads in sand. The terrorists believe that they are, with firm conviction. There is the problem.

In the meantime there is still a real and present danger. Bombs and bullets don't discriminate.
