Re: General Chit Chat
Just reading about Oliver Reed,

He left the set of the Channel 4 television discussion programme After Dark after arriving drunk and attempting to kiss feminist writer Kate Millett, uttering the memorable phrase, "Give us a kiss, big tits".

I'm actually getting a bit bored with Pointless. Not really a general knowledge quiz, more a specialised one, and some of the topics are decidedly unfair, as in two women being asked about cricket and football etc. No feminism champ me, but I'm all for fairness. I groan aloud when topics like American politics,(even our politics) science, astrology film awards, book prizes and modern pop music arrive. I don't expect anybody to know the answers to everything, but General knowledge is usually a bit more er, general than this surely?
Show's not half as entertaining as The Chase. "All hail Frosty Fanny, the only woman who has fridge magnets on her knickers" !

There is an American version of the Chase now starring the beast, who is always the chaser. Not as good as the UK original IMHO (which I watch on youtube).TANGODANCER wrote:I'm actually getting a bit bored with Pointless. That's the point of the format though! If it was stuff everyone knew then it wouldn't really work.

All four of the Chasers have their own personalities, but I prefer the Beast and Anne Hegarty (she's my favourite). I love the way they all have a sense of humour and don't take it all too seriously. Good show.Montreal Wanderer wrote:

Quite so. Any question's easy if you know the answer. It's knowledge Jim, but not as we know it.Beefheart wrote:That's the point of the format though! If it was stuff everyone knew then it wouldn't really work.

I went off it a bit after the production team never phoned me back after getting my hopes up...I still watch it sometimes and mainly get annoyed if there's a question I like because it means if I ever did get on it's already been used up!TANGODANCER wrote:Quite so. The "Governess" got a right pounding tonight. Nine push backs and couldn't do a thing right. Needless to say she was not amused.

Just seen this in a comment thread, is this really a big deal over there Monty? On a brighter note: We (in Canada) have our Supreme Court announcing their ruling re 'Assisted Dying' very soon. Friday, Feb 6 is going to be the big day. Those of us who support AD and DWD are hoping the news will be good. If not...we will battle on. (About 80+% of Canadians are in support.)
Just asking because it's slowly turning into a large topic in the UK.

It is perhaps not so big a deal as what is wrong with the Leafs, but there is a fair amount of interest. There is one official charity dedicated to advocate it. It will be on the news front burner again on Friday when the Supreme Court rules on Carter vs Canada. As noted, most Canadian favour doctor assisted suicide.Hoboh wrote:Just seen this in a comment thread, is this really a big deal over there Monty? On a brighter note: We (in Canada) have our Supreme Court announcing their ruling re 'Assisted Dying' very soon. Apparently binge drinking is down in young adults. Apparently also, a binge = 4 pints or more....I'm a bit confused by this, as I thought they measured binges in days, during which no-on had a very accurate counting mechanism...

Really enjoyed this piece by Jon Ronson on the return of public shaming, via twitter.

Internet dating sites (not that I use them of course) seems to be becoming more specialized. This one may be just right for Bobo.
