common denominators in those names:

a) all 30 or over
b) all out of contract - freebies

hmmm...

Palacios - spent 4 yrs at stoke struggling to make any impact and mostly being injured
Dobbie - a striker who has scored 13 goals in the last 3 years and had a bit-part in Harry Potter
Taylor - yet another perma-crock with well-dodgy knees...

not the stuff pre-season dreams are made of....
Mere detail, according to Plymouth. He of the un-scratched pad. ;)

Anybody fancy having Nolan back?

Kevin Nolan is understood to have held preliminary discussions with Bolton Wanderers, with view to a return to the Championship club.

The West Ham United captain spent a decade at the Reebok Stadium between 1999 and 2009 and could be set for a return to the North West this summer.

KUMB revealed earlier this month how Liverpool-born Nolan had privately expressed a desire to leave the Boleyn Ground the 2015/16 campaign after four years with the Hammers.

And according to sources close to the player, the 32-year-old midfielder has already held talks regarding a possible return to Wanderers - although the major sticking point remains his £50,000-per-week wages.

Nolan's current five-year contract with West Ham expires at the end of the 2015/16 season. He was Sam Allardyce's first major signing upon taking the managerial post in the summer of 2011.

Bolton have sunk like a stone since Nolan was a firm favourite amongst Trotters fans during their mid-noughties heyday. However last season they finished 18th in the Championship, just four places clear of relegation.

'Nobby' has made 152 appearances for West Ham during the past four seasons, scoring 31 goals. That followed 91 appearances for Newcastle between 2009 and 2011, plus a further 345 for Bolton with whom he began his professional career.

Yes but he would clearly have to do it for the love of the club as he ain't getting £50k a week here.

No way on this or any other planet can we afford Nolan's wages. Even if Spam picked up half the cost, we'd be way short. I'd love to think this could happen and think he could be a major difference for us if it did. Pinch of salt time and his agent looking for offers elsewhere I suspect.

50k a week is a bit out of our price range.

I'd take him back if we could, though.

Probably pure pipe-dreaming, but Kev Nolan was always totally Bolton while he was here. If I remember rightly he didn't even know he was being sold to Newcastle till the taxi arrived. (That might be just a tad exagerated mind) I'd love him back here.

so are we happier when we are not being linked with anybody or when we are ?

I often wonder what is a 'normal' number of players / agents a club looks at or sounds out and what the %success rate is i.e. someone is signed. I assume it varies according to the club status/ circumstance and manager approach. Given where we are at, I'd assumed we'd have a very long list of potentials and a low conversion rate - a list of hundereds whittled down to say 40 players of 'real' interest to deliver 2 or 3 signings. With the list changing as new info comes in.

Anyboy in the know or with an insight ?

Palacios, Taylor & Nolan....its a very big Yes from me !

They are 3 quality players IMO....sure they will have had past issues, but if they were bang in form, injury free, we wouldn't have a chance of any of these players.

All three would be huge improvements on what we had last season.

Amos looks smart in that training kit, no wonder he seems so happy. Much better than that shit with the devil on it, that he used to have to wear. No doubt unwillingly as well.

Dobbies training with us on those pics, too. Don't get overexcited just yet though, Plymouth. We might only be having a look at them. ;)

If we can get him and he stays injury free (at our place!!) Taylor would be a good signing. I was never convinced of him at premier league level but he's a decent full back with a great free kick on him. Hopefully he still has family round here

I'd just like to go on record as offering my full support to Plymouth. I believe in what he's trying to create here, and just think he needs a little patience and support from the fans.

If you look carefully through the swathes of cynicism, there is hope, and where there's hope there's a way.

In fact if we don't announce 2 signings by sundown on Wednesday I will eat my shorts.
