Re: The athletics/running thread
Ah. Change of plan, I reckon. Firstly, LeverEnd, before you start, if I do go out in it tonight then yes, I will fecking melt, you c*nt. However, tomorrow offers a max of 21 deg C, a spot of drizzle and a 6 mph breeze.Gary the Enfield wrote:Bruce Rioja wrote:I got myself through a lot of those freezing cold, icy, winter runs by telling myself that I was putting myself through it so that I'll truly appreciate the summer runs, and would be able to congratulate myself for having stuck at them. It's currently 32 deg C here.
Glad I'm not running. 35 in the shade. Hope it cools as I have 9km club race tomorrow. Not going to be pleasant.
I said I'd never complain about running in heat after my two winter-long marathon training stints. But I do.![]()
11 degrees and drizzly is what I love.
Sitting in the garden with a tall G&T, loads of ice and lime 1 - running myself into a puddle of sweat 0.

Hi GtE. I'll be at PR and ordinarily would be happy to run you back, but have to dash off to Deane and miss breakfast to help my friend Billy Bradshaw move house. Bruce has a much nicer car than me anyway!

Re: The athletics/running thread
Just been out for a run. Didn't feel that warm when I set off. Ran 2 miles and now feel as if I am fcuking melting!!
Had a cold shower when I got back, but as soon as I put on the thinnest of t-shirts, the sweat starts to pour out of me again. Even with a large lime and soda, with ice in my hand. Big mistake!!

Feckity feck feck. My first ever dnf tonight. A mile into it and my bloody hamstring seized up, this despite a warm up that was almost as long as the race was going to be. I had the long walk of shame back with marshals asking if I was alright, quickly followed up with "it's a bit hot tonight isn't it?". I felt like shouting at em "I've not quit because of the bloody weather!!"

Hopefully not too long GG. I'll just have to be a bit selective about which races I do in the next month

Re: The athletics/running thread
Fancy Heaton Park, GTE?
SOZ: It happens only very rarely, but we have had to take the decision to cancel this weekend's event (Saturday, July 4) due to another event taking place in the park. Why not try treat yourself to a change and try out our neighbours at Pennington Flash parkrun, Heaton parkrun, Worsley Woods parkrun or Watergrove parkrun, Rochdale?

Well that's me buggered. Calf tear again, same pain and location as last time, which took 2 months. Only jogging as well. Back still not 100% either and a smsll fortune spent on physio. I think the writing is on the wall for me and running!
Any suggestions? Darts is favourite right now.
