There are no bad people, just unfortunate ones.
No-one fails, they are failed by our iniquitous systems.
Everyone is willing to work hard given a chance.
Everyone's clever, just not given opportunity.
No-one sponges, except rich people who cheat and lie to their wealth.
Oh, unless you don't agree with all that in which case you're a racist, reactionary, self-interested, fool etc., etc.
Now write a 100 lines admitting your folly.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Yes. In that way he does where he's saying it without actually saying it so can deny it at any time.jaffka wrote:Feck me this has rambled on with no end in sight.

Maybe time to move on to another pointless endless circular argument fellas; this one has been flogged to death.

Oh don't be wet, there is a whole army of liberal pinko's out there prepared to twist anything to fulfil their wet dream of a multicultural society consisting of all these non existent, nice, migrant families. The fact that all the men have bogged off and left them behind to face rape, persecution and violence is neither here nor there, they are good lads, just the sort of men we need!

very amusing... except - nobody has said this.
you (at least) are a reasonably clever bloke and more than capable of understanding the nuances of an issue.
you (at least) are quite capable of understanding that the existence of some work shy feckers does not automatically mean that there is a generational passing down of a workshy-culture...
all the research seems to suggest that this (latter) is actually NOT the case (unless you can point me to some research with a differing conclusion?)
it doesn't fit well in a Daily Mail headline - but you (at least) are better then that...

Re: The Politics Thread
I've got umpteen years experience working on deprived northern housing estates. Yes, there are idle workshy feckers but far far fewer than you may imagine.
Just recently my company started investing time & money in some of our estates to try and tackle unemployment. The changes in some people who have been found places in training, education or work is unbelievable and quite uplifting. People who just through a set of circumstances found themselves in a depressed downward cycle where as many said - they couldn't even see the point in getting dressed some days - these same folk are now holding down jobs, look and appear more confident and even better - they encourage others to get out of the same spiral.

Re: The Politics Thread
That is the sort of thing I believe is required. It doesn't really matter whether workshy and lazy or not. That is really something that is impossible to measure. We are just about all workshy and lazy SOMETIMES. I mean few if any of us do the work that a woman in an African village does on a daily basis. And they would consider our lifestyles incredibly lazy.Harry Genshaw wrote:I've got umpteen years experience working on deprived northern housing estates. My point is that there is an issue of people in certain areas going in downward spirals. Forget anything else, positive interventions like those described above can only be a good thing. If everyone has a decent chance then we can re-assess.

Far, far too generous with bobo. He's definitely not better than that on anything. He means it all. Really.thebish wrote:bobo the clown wrote:Oh, c'mon you two. Except you have, & do, constantly. If you don't then I suggest you develop greater clarity as that's how your constant defence of everything remotely critical comes over. The constant tenor of your remarks suggest no-one ever is at fault except 'the system', 'the authorities'.thebish wrote:very amusing... except - nobody has said this.bobo the clown wrote:Oh, c'mon you two. Re: The Politics Thread
no - not at all - it simply highlights the fact that political discussion isn't summat you are remotely interested in - you are only interested in polarised one-liner put-downs and ridiculously oversimplified characterisations of other peoples' views in order to facilitate such one-liner put-downs. It is slightly depressing that a perfectly reasonable and non-confrontational discussion between two or three people about a political issue in a specially reserved thread called "The Politics Thread" should somehow be frowned upon by those who are not in the least bit interested in contributing to the discussion - just for japes...bobo the clown wrote:Except you have, & do, constantly. if you had read my contributions to the discussion - then you will be totally aware that your characterisation of what I am supposed to have said is not even close.
WtW is mistaken - you ARE better than this - but you daren't let it show for fear of seeming uncool!
Despite your ridiculous claims, I doubt you will find a single post of mine that seriously talks about "the system" or the "the authorities" being somehow at fault for anything at all... I'll bet you can't find one - let alone something that qualifies as "constant"...
I'm putting it all down to your time of the month...

Re: The Politics Thread
The Morning Star is a left-wing British daily tabloid newspaper with a focus on social and trade union issues. Articles and comment columns are contributed by writers from socialist, social democratic, green and religious perspectives.
The newspaper was founded in 1930 as the Daily Worker, organ of the Communist Party of Great Britain (CPGB). Since 1945 the paper has been owned by the People's Press Printing Society. It was renamed the Morning Star in 1966. Britain's Road to Socialism, the programme of the Communist Party, underlies the paper's editorial stance.
