Not that hard since it is just off the road to Beaune. We went there and to Riquewihr, both fascinating if somewhat touristi towns.Lost Leopard Spot wrote:Egiusheim is very close to Colmar. But very difficult to find. It's worthwhile finding it, I recommend another trip over...Montreal Wanderer wrote:Many reasons of varying importance. Guy just shot out of what looked like a driveway to me as O was heading for Alsace oddly enough. On that same trip I recall driving three times round on the inside track of the Place de la Concorde wondering how I good get to my exit with everyone entering at terrifying speeds. Finally put on the indicator, closed my eyes and booted it. What a daft rule. Welcome back.Lost Leopard Spot wrote: [
Exactement... I was in the wrong too but going too fast around the roundabout to do much about it. It's a good job for my sake that the lorry driver had bloody good reactions. It confused the hell out of me, in fact I'm still confused, thinking about it I can't remember whether the sign had the black diagonal through it or if that's the norm and this one particular roundabout just had the yellow diamond sign. Whichever, it's very naughty of the French to have two contradictory laws of the road in the same country...
Were you heading to Alsace for anything in particular?
I need to return. There and Switzerland, I just passed through and should have lingered a while longer.
a) I was going from Strasburg to Beaune trying out wines and medieval architecture.
b) I had never been there.
c) I wanted to try Framboise Alsace of which I had heard but not partaken
d) We had booked a night in Colmar at the Restaurant Rapp mit raums. This restaurant then had two stars in the Michelin guide and we wanted one really good meal that trip. A quick check of google shows it still exists but is now l'Hotel Restaurant le Rapp but I couldn't tell if it still had the stars.

I spent a year in Strasbourg as a student in 1995, Alsace is a wonderful region. Need to get back there soon myself, you've got me thinking now.

Did you do any jousting on the canals with those flat back boats and long poles? It was sort of interesting to watch those students.LeverEnd wrote:I spent a year in Strasbourg as a student in 1995, Alsace is a wonderful region. Need to get back there soon myself, you've got me thinking now.

No, don't remember seeing anything like that. Had a great time though. I used to hitchhike to small villages around Alsace to run in races. Saw a lot of a beautiful region.Montreal Wanderer wrote:Did you do any jousting on the canals with those flat back boats and long poles? Doing a painting of Spitlers Edge, Anglzarke Moor at the moment but didn't know this interesting fact:
The name is derived from the fact that in mediaeval times, the Knights Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem used this route when travelling to their holdings in this district.

For those of the right age ....
Actress Fenella Fielding was the sister of actor Mary Feldman.
You're welcome.

Although she was born a Feldman she is no relation to Marty (or Mary whoever she was). Standard internet bollocks.Enoch wrote:Are you certain about that?bobo the clown wrote:For those of the right age ....

Quite right. I just checked.
I've been dining out on that for years.
Fck it. I'll carry on. Too late to change it now.

Warren Beatty was Shirley McLaine's brother though if that'll do?

No. But Brian Connolly, the singer from The Sweet was brother to Mark McManus, the first Taggart.
But no matter .... I'm going to keep the faith with the Feldmans.
