I think apparently is definately the key in that case. Coyle has been talking up the fee beyond £17mil for some time now.

I need double clarification that this is a piss take.CAPSLOCK wrote: Like I've heard apparently we are well in the race for Upson
Innuendo is not enough. Please.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.

I'd be surprized if we get more than 15 million for him. Thats a whole lot of money for a centre-half who was part of a team that leaked loads of goals during the season. A profit of 10 million is good business.

You can see why Citeh paid so much for Lescott though.
Anyone who can score with the back of their head without looking at the ball, has to be worth more than Cahill...

Sorry if this has already been dealt with, but are Villa on a sell-on cut?
Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Nobody on here knows
There was a sell on originally, but we may have bought it out
Like I say though, all guesswork as is the presence or otherwise of a release fee

I really can't see it, though he's better than we give him credit forLord Kangana wrote:I need double clarification that this is a piss take.CAPSLOCK wrote: Like I've heard apparently we are well in the race for Upson

He must be
He just has to be
But I was told we're in there
If we get him, then Davies really can call it a day

Upson simply cannot be as bad as he looks against us, he must have something.
I'd be slightly more happy with him as Cahill's replacement than the young utility lad from 'Boro. A lot of Upson's problems to me have seemed to be in his head, there's probably no-one better to sort that than Coyle.

Upson is damaged goods... OC won't go there - he's looking for promising youth to 'improve' so they can make a career elsewhere... I'm not against this policy even if it means we are some kind of feeder club for our biggers and betters...

Hammers fans say he's been phoning it in for a couple of seasons.
Its a big ask for Coyle to reinvigorate a man who (they say) doesn't give much of a shit anymore.
He is available on a free, though, isn't he? Its less of a gamble like that, but I worry about the baggage he brings.

A recent England player, on a free who has lost the fire in his belly?
Perfect for the OC !

Not sure about that - he failed to do it for any of the 14 participants in our last five matches.

Upson is a shadow of his former Birmingham days... He was feckin' average then....

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Presumably Upson would want a big wage. And is he the organiser we need? Not quite the ball-player we require post-Cahill. Perhaps it's the unknown, but this Boro lad intrigues me more - especially as he'd cost less (over his contract), bring versatility and could slot in with Wheater.

Is GC out of contract next summer? I have this idea in my head that he is and that we could lose him next summer for nowt.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
He does have 12 months left, I have just checked. He signed his last deal 18 months ago and I have a feeling clubs will just wait 12 months and pick him up for nothing.
I think he is a good defender but we will never get the £17 million that we are waiting for.

I don't think clubs like Arsenal and Man City can afford to wait? I think we'll get 15 million at least

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
Too many teams are after young England internationals and for what they are getting at £18m he's not bad.
Pfffft.

Re: Official Gary Cahill transfer thread
When do we ever get what we want in paying for or receiving what we want in the transfer market?
