I see the sale of the Canadiens has finally been approved. Expect any changes now that Gillette is a little more solvent?
Slightly longer answer: You must be kidding?
I fully expect nothing to change - Gillett won't be pumping any cash into LFC, given that he and Hicks had to stump up some money to reduce the debt before RBS would agree to refinance them in the summer. If anything, this money'll just be going on the next chunk of interest that we'll have to clear off the debt before we refinance again, and again, and again...

Oh, I consider SAF's signing record to be truly terrible. Why do you think they need to have Giggs getting them out of trouble in this day and age? His numbers look nice because of the sale of Ronaldo, but otherwise he's wasted quite a lot of dosh these last years for little return. I'm surprised they are doing well in the league myself, but for some reason ManU is one of those teams that seem to be able to beat others just with the badge, so to speak.blurred wrote:Village_Idiot2 wrote: I'll give you some shocking mid-range signings of my own: Nani, Anderson, Tosic... Best part of £30m wasted there for next to feck all end result. And Hargreaves' injury record has proven to be up to scratch, hasn't it? 170 appearances in 10 years he's made, and people are criticising the signing of Aquilani...
Regarding Aquilani, I agree that you sign a player for 5 years and not 5 months, but there was no contingency plan in the squad. If Cesc gets broken, Arsenal has a number of players that can play that role, not as well, but they can. Same with Chelsea, they have Deco or Ballack at a push to fill up Lampard's boots on a pinch. Liverpool didn't have any other playmaker in the books just to cover that hole, and if you had any up and coming youngster (i'm not familiar with your youth setup), you didn't play him. You could have tried Gerrard there, I assume, but in all the games I have seen this season he has never slotted back to midfield. That's lack of planning/stubborness.

Prick.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Got some tasty ties that we could get, though. I can get onboard with this Europa League malarky:Zulus Thousand of em wrote:"We will not be seeded in the Europa League. We must cope with that and handle whatever comes our way now."
Prick.
Juventus, Wolfsburg, Marseille, Unirea Urziceni, Sporting Lisbon, Galatasaray, Salzburg, Fenerbahce, Benfica, Shakhtar Donetsk, PSV are all definitely to be drawn from the other pot, along with a chance of one of
Ajax/Anderlecht
Valencia/Lille/Genoa
Hamburg/Hapoel Tel Aviv
Roma/Fulham/Basel
Werder Bremen/Athletic Bilbao
Some corking trips in there. Knowing our luck we'll get fecking PSV or Marseille again.

Not a gambling man myself but it's a 1 in 15 chance isn't it?blurred wrote:If Fulham beat Basel away and Roma lose away at CSKA Sofia (who have one point from their 5 games) then we'll have a 1 in 16 chance of drawing them.superjohnmcginlay wrote:Or a belting trip to Fulham.
Can that happen?
So no.
God's country! God's county!
God's town! God's team!!
How can we fail?
COME ON YOU WHITES!!

Nope, it'd be a 1 in 16 chance, and that's only if they beat Basel away (tricky) and Roma get beat away at the shittest team in the group. So I'd offer some pretty huge odds on us drawing Fulham. Sofia are probably a 3/1 shot to beat Roma, which would have to be doubled with Fulham beating Basel, and that's probably a 2/1 shot at the very least, before you added the 16/1 chance in the draw.Zulus Thousand of em wrote:Not a gambling man myself but it's a 1 in 15 chance isn't it?
So it's roughly a 96/1 chance of us playing them.
So there's still a chance.blurred wrote:Nope, it'd be a 1 in 16 chance, and that's only if they beat Basel away (tricky) and Roma get beat away at the shittest team in the group. Yes, hence why I put them in the list of possibles in my original post, next to Roma and Basel, because they're technically not without a chance of finishing top.seanworth wrote:So there's still a chance.
Edit: A quick check of the UEFA Rules shows that there's the so-called 'country protection' in this round, which means we definitely can't get them until the last 16. Hurrah.

Just listened to Radio Merseyside's post-match phone in. Post the Liverpool 1-2 Arsenal game, that is.
... & we think Megson's unpopular ??
Now I know that this radio station only covers a proportion of the city, as there are other teams there (Marine, Halewood, Southport at a push) & also only a small proportion of Liverpool fans as most of them, a-la Stetford Redsox, live out of the city (& why wouldn't you live out of that city ?) but nonetheless the anti-Benitez bile was amazing.
OK, I wish we were "failing" at his standard, but their expectations and their financial requirements demand a high level of achievement & it's clear that many of them don't reckon that he can help them get there. God, I hope they're right.
The general view seems to be that he's clueless & that he's ripped the heart out of the club & that he's wasted piles of cash. They seem to think that he'll stay till season end, but will go in the summer. There's pessimism that they'll get anywhere this year and are convinced they will struggle to get even 5th place. I think the general concensus was that he's a prick !!
One guy who came on & was a tad less negative, was called ...... wait for it .... a "Rose-Tinter".
