Who else did he target? What other positions did we try to strengthen?BWFC_Insane wrote:I don't think you or anyone else on here can possibly know if that was the case or not.SmokinFrazier wrote:I don't know if that's quite true. Freedman wanted Baptiste and got him. He wanted Tierney and got him too We chased Beckford for ages and got him. We got Spearing and Hall, who were two clear targets from the start. Moritz was another key target and we got him in the end. All of our business was done early in the transfer window and the only player we wanted but didn't get was Dawson, who was unrealistic and Freedman knew it would always be a long shot.wigan white wrote:Why are you so insistant on blaming DF for all thats gone on??? I don't know the facts but from the outside it looks as though, he wasnt given the cash to bring in who he really wanted to in the summer, potentially due to being unable to off-load some of the "High-earners".
Freedman got who he wanted, bar Dawson. Dawson was obviously a very good player last year but when you only miss out on one target, who you knew beforehand would be hard to get, then it can hardly be called an unsuccessful window.

He didn't say. But I'm sure he said, after we signed the full-backs and kids, that he wanted four more. Was it at the forum?SmokinFrazier wrote:Who else did he target? What other positions did we try to strengthen?

Re: Freedman out!
Sensing in the great 'is it the players, is it the manager' debate that other than BL3 and SF people are leaning more now to the its the players answer. At the same time people think everyone should accept the new reality.
In regard to the latter I don't think we should at all. Of course we have to deal with it as we are where we are. But at the same time we were relegated with a team who only just went down, in reasonable end of season form. I never expected to hammer every team in sight but I expected and expect us to be competitive and in the mix at the upper end of the table. Both Coyle and Freeman have had latitude to spend/ change players - isn't it a point that if we have all these high earners on our books, it says something about our competitiveness in the transfer market.
I've said a number of time that IMO the players are good enough and we do have a reasonable sized squad for this division. To me its therefore a question of underperfomance rather than we have found an appropriate new level.

Re: Freedman out!
I'm not sure, mate, I thought Freedman made a few comments before the start of the season that after Spearing (I think), he was happy with the squad and wouldn't be bringing anyone else in unless Dawson became available. I know Nixon confirmed that Freedman was only after Dawson, though it was a long shot.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:He didn't say. we got 4 more, didn't we - possibly more - i've lost track of who came when! but after the full backs and the kids we have brought in Moritz, Danns, Feeney and McNaughty...
Re: Freedman out!
according to dougie - he doesn't really WANT loads of cash - he's not that kind of manager...

He's repeating things he's said before and with all his (and his coaching staffs) football school interests. Is slightly worrying if he thinks one of his prime outcome is developing unknown players rather than winning bleedin football matches

Re: Freedman out!
Well, one of the other things he famously said was that he isn't a fan of the loan market as that just gets other clubs players up to speed. Well, you could have fooled me Dougie.
He doesn't half waffle on.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Re: Freedman out!
The latitude that is granted for our new manager on here is breathtaking.
Its October, we haven't got a single digit against our W column. And we've signed a raft of players to add to a squad that lost nobody and finished 7th last season.
How is that all the players fault, our "new reality", amongst other bullshit, and not anything at all to do with poor management?

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Re: Freedman out!
are you REALLY vexed that folk are generally fairly forgiving and willing to give a bloke a chance? does that REALLY bother you that much?
the call for more tolerance, patience and forbearance in today's world, is surely a breath of fresh air!

Re: Freedman out!
Like BL3 pointed out. Dyche is doing a great job at Burnley with very little cash it seems. I think this is because Dyche is a very good manager who had taken to it like a duck to water. He's a better manager than Dougie right now, quite clearly, as the seen over the duration of their short managerial careers. However this doesn't make Dougie a terrible manager and isn't grounds for sacking him after just 10 games, no matter how badly they have gone.
He's being let down by certain players and is clearly struggling to sort it out. I'd give him a bit longer, as the last 2 games suggested a slight improvement. Last season we saw improved performances before results. Now they seem motivated but lacking in confidence, which is better than not playing for him or losing dressing rooms or whatever bollocks we can call it. If it goes flat again with no sign of picking up then he should go. If they are battling but struggling I'd give him some leeway. We can't just accept being in the bottom 6 long term though obviously, because for me the finance thing doesn't wash.

I just think it's a bit odd to read posts whining about people being too patient and forbearing! I wish MORE people were - not fewer!!

If you are using Nixon as a source then that is definitely incorrect. He was banging on from end July onwards about how Dougie was frustrated that he couldn't bring in the players he wanted and that DF felt the squad was short,SmokinFrazier wrote:I'm not sure, mate, I thought Freedman made a few comments before the start of the season that after Spearing (I think), he was happy with the squad and wouldn't be bringing anyone else in unless Dawson became available. Dougie himself on one of those twitter q&a's said he wanted 4 more, but we only got Spearing after that.
