Is that why a woman has won it three times out of the last four before this year then?ratbert wrote:
Both Austin and Tom peaked too soon and looked lost when dancing without their partners to cling to. As I said, housewive's choice, the BBC knew that which is why they contrived the scoring to keep him in. More women watch and vote than men, therefore more revenue via the phone lines. Easy!

End result ruined it for me, Tom was clearly third best but once again we get the housewifes choice picked out because of who he is not be because of what he can do.
Still probably the best of this type of show on TV and good fun entertainment. Does not make me want to get on my dancing clogs though, I know my limitations

Didn't Ramps and Goughy win it?TANGODANCER wrote:Is that why a woman has won it three times out of the last four before this year then?ratbert wrote:

Just caught up with this on iPlayer - I've been away for a few days and had to miss the final on Saturday (I was watching Rowan Atkinson playing a tremendous Fagin in Oliver, and can't recommend that enough as a production...)ratbert wrote:Both Austin and Tom peaked too soon and looked lost when dancing without their partners to cling to. Tom's foot slipped on the floor (something that could have happened to Fred Astaire) in an otherwise faultless dance and he got marked seven points less? Rachel and Vincent went for the floaty Romeo and Juliet stuff right through.
Turn both Lisa and Rachel loose away from their partners and they wouldn't know what to do on a dance floor, that's why Tom won. The man's a natural dancer whereas the other two just went for "no-mistake" dance-class stuff. Keep the words of Arlene Phillips in mind : "That wasn't a good dance for an amateur, that was a good dance for a professional"
Austin Healey was the best dancer of them all and he got marked out by the judges. He should have been the winner. As it was, the next best guy won.
I really don't know how you could say that about Austin and Tom - they are both showmen, in their different ways, and both were very good 'out of hold' and away from their partners.
It's a bit sad, I know, but I'm with Tango on Strictly - I was addicted and it's a gap in the TV schedules for me now it's finished. My pick was Austin, and I agree that he suffered as a result of peaking too soon and not having the story of improvement that some did.
For my money, Chambers was a good and worthy champion. Both Lisa and Rachel are stunners, and technically very good dancers, but at the end of the day it's a light entertainment programme and a popularity contest, and TC had that bit of spark that set him apart as a performer. His showdance was excellent and something a bit out of the ordinary and quirky at the crucial time.
Honourable mention to Brucie for still being the best in the business (and still plaing a decent game of golf, by all accountd) even in his eighties - that's even older than Tango dancer, and something for us all to aspire to. Get him knighted, I say!
