For new signings, ask the man from the Pru

Obviously we know his style but the stats are interesting - 11 yellow cards this season, 5 in his 15 games last season, 5 in his 18 the previous season; 2.4 tackles per game this season, which is only bettered for us by Casado, Vela and Spearing (his away-game average of 3 per game is bettered only by Spearing).

Anyway, if they want him, please take him; sadly, it's just one of those fan-written "Why don't we buy this bloke?" pieces.

3 tackles a game is high !?!?!?!?

Jeez. I'd expect that in the first 3 minutes.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Me too. I was moderately shit at football but even I could manage more than 3 playing left wing on a bad day!

I think the stat might be tackles WON per game...

top tacklers in the premiership are reckoned to be:

Lucas Leiva: 6.4 tackles won per game
Fernandinho: 4.2 tackles won per game
Eric Pieters: 4.2 tackles won per game

Leiva won 83% of ALL the tackles he made - which was 65 in 9 games
Fernandinho and Pieters both won about 70% of ALL tackles made - which for both of them was 60-odd in 11 games

so - even the best tacklers in the English game are only making about 6 or 7 tackles per game in total...

I know the game's changed, but Holy Moley.

I suppose I never counted but I'd be astonished at anything even close to twice that. Ah well.

I remember when we were doing alright in the PL and Muamba & Holden were up there in the 'successful tackles' stats (shame Mr Coyle couldn't see the wood for the trees re: Fabrice). Same for Newcastle when they had a little period of decency - Tiote was the top man in the tackle stats.

There's a lot to be said for winning the ball back...

As Leicester have shown. Having a midfield pair who can cover ground and win the ball back through interceptions and tackles is more important than ones who can use it well. Leicester stumbled across ones who could do a bit of both but neither are outstanding on the ball or anything just brilliant at winning it back and getting round the pitch.

They're both good, but neither are Iniesta in possession. It isn't what they're about. What makes them so good is the ground they cover and the way they win it back

Look at their possession stats. Who cares how many passes you make, Leicester were all about winning it back and springing from there. Brilliant at that. And Kante and Drinkwater excelled at that.

I kinda hope we hold out for that. Arsenal - they can afford it - and they have hoovered up talent all over the world for peanuts... it's about time someone other than them benefited... they're about to be given a cheque for umpteen squillion quid - if they want our talent, they can pay for it... stingy blousers...

We aren't in a position of strength and frankly if we get £3M for Holding it will be an excellent deal at this stage. He's played 20 odd games in a losing side. He looks very good yes, but so have many over a similar period before falling away.

Be lovely to screw Arsenal but equally they know we're not in a position of stength. We didn't even manage that when we were in the premiership.

I suspect it's more about how much we can get up front. We still have a 3 million quid sized hole in the budget. Now, if we can just lure someone else in with another 3 mil for Clough, this thread will be looking like a success inside ten pages.

In which case your hopes aren't ambitious enough!

I hope we get £50M and have him loaned back for the year....

Coyle paid £3m for marvelous Marvin - on the promise of his "potential"

On the basis that Marvin turned out to be sh*t - and as a young centre half RH is only going to improve with age then £7m would be a cracking result for the wanderers..

Hope they aim for at least £5m upfront - as this will secure our clubs future for the next 12 months or so

You'd be a really shit salesman!

We have something Arsenal want and there is a demand for that something. If Arsenal really want that something then we hold all the cards and it's down to KA to take them as far as he can without scaring them off. Given his past job, I'd say he should be fairly good at judging that.

There is no way the lad is worth 7m right now, but he might in a few years be worth a lot more. If we can get a few million up front and lots of add-ons then I'm all for it.

No, Coyle paid £3m for Marvin because he's a clueless dick.
