Really AT? Good old monkeytown! I don't know how old you are, but I'm a Wham Bar lad. Used to go in the Dressers, White Lion, Seven Stars late '70's onwards. Plus many of the other (52 iirc) pubs in town. Went to Suthy road school, but I've heard it's no longer there. Due to my job, I'm not on facebook, but my daughter was showing me some pictures the other day, a guy called Gary Parkinson, who worked at Bolton Tat shop has a photo on his page showing a band playing. I'm the one on the right playing the bass..

I sure am. Born just off Rochdale Road East in the early 70s. I moved to Radcliffe in the early 80s but bussed it back to Siddy Moor school. I frequented a large number of the pubs, but that was late 80s/early 90s. Do you remember the Joiners?Il Pirate wrote:Abdoulaye's Twin wrote:I'm a Heywood lad. Re: General Chit Chat
So, there we were on a course residential weekend last week. During a curry in Rusholme (the place has gone to the dogs by the way and I'm gutted about it - the best restaurants have closed to be replaced by sheesha cafes and there was a horrible, quite intimidating atmosphere about the place) and after several bottles of awful wine, the question was asked:
"So, Bob, how much would you have to be offered to 'take one for the team'? "
After much reflection, I decided that if someone was peeling cash in front of me, I'd sacrifice my cherry for 25 grand (This may make me a closet gayer but hey, I'm being honest here). So, have I sold myself (not to mention my aris) too short??

Dunno, Bruce, his page is full of pictures of people playing guitars in local hot spots. Why wouldn't the Pirate chappies be one of the guitar players. I'm not sure why Pirate can't check Facebook because of his job - why not from home? Oh well. Perhaps you are right.Bruce Rioja wrote:Different Gary Parkinson, Monty. I'm stuck. What to get Mr GG for Fathers Day from the kids? He says he doesn't really want anything. He has enough socks and t-shirts to last a life time, he rarely reads anything more edifying then 'retro gamer' magazine. He often asks for DVDs and then never watches them. I'm seriously wondering whether a Chinese takeaway and some beer might be a good present? Not very fathers day-y is it though? You're mostly blokes. Any genius ideas?

Re: General Chit Chat
Well, usually beer from a well thought of microbrewery. Some do a set of bottles that cover their range*. Or off-licences can put together a selection of bottles. Or you could theme them: if he likes IPAs for instance you could get a range of IPAs from different breweries. But basically craft beers - I'm sure that there must be some good microbreweries around Sussex, Kent, and if not go exotic and get them from far afield (like Scotland). You wont have to actually travel there- a good offie can supply them.Gooner Girl wrote: What constitutes 'top beer'?
Thornbridge for instance do a Wild Swan, Kipling, Jaipur, Sequoia set.
