Oh aye. Marc Iles who gets his scoops from twitter has the lowdown on our line up for saturday. Absolutely!
Re: Away at Mick McCarthy's Super Ipswich Town
It's good to have a plan B. if Dougie is thinking of using it, then I would think it will be more a case of if our normal formation isn't working then change it up.

I wouldn't mind seeing us try that system, keeps the opposition on their toes as they can't be sure as to which system we will use and gives us a Plan B and as you'd expect Dougie has had them working hard at it in training.thebish wrote:cripes!! sounds like a big change from what was a winning formula!!TANGODANCER wrote:Indications of bringing Wheater or Ream in on three central defender roles and maybe leaving Chungy out to let Alonso and Ricketts attack down the wings. ? Today's B.N.
IF he goes with the wing backs, i think it would be a perfect chance to give Chungy a break as from what people have been saying who go to the games, he looks a bit leggy.
Either way, Douggiecool will sort it

Flexibility is good. Misinformation is good.
Watching us (three 1-0s in the last four games) play a five-man defence at Ipswich (last seven games: scored two, conceded four) might be less so.
But I'll be there, thanks to our fine forum friend Enoch.

Article's by Isles but the Ipswich comment is from Dougie so there may be some truth in it.officer_dibble wrote:Oh aye. Marc Iles who gets his scoops from twitter has the lowdown on our line up for saturday. Absolutely!

According to that the Ipswich "struggling against 5 at the back" stuff is Iles filler around a Dougie comment about expecting to use the system "at some point".
I don't like 5 at the back, never have done. I don't think now is the time to experiment either. We've found a way of winning, by all means swap players in and out based on the data Dougie and his team collect (another article in the BN today) but I'm not convinced on such a major system change at this stage given we've just got back in the race.
Having said that, Dougie is da man so whatever he thinks, I'll be happy with!

Re: Away at Mick McCarthy's Super Ipswich Town
We need to push them back early and try and get a goal. They really don't have much attacking threat, so if we can get off to a fast start, like against Hull, we should be alright to defend it. I'm not expecting three goals in 8 minutes but if we can take the lead within 25 minutes, I think that might be enough for another 1-0 win.
I doubt we'll start with 5 defenders either. It'll be a variation of 4-4-2, which has turned the season around, and then if we're leading at 80 minutes or so, Wheater will come on and we'll have 5 at the back to give us a bit more protection.
Having said that, I hope Wheater starts soon and Knight is relegated to the bench. Wheater is a much better defender and the sooner he's starting, the better.

• Bolton are two places and three points outside the play-offs and on the best current form in the division, unbeaten in eight, having won the last five.
• The Trotters are bidding for their best winning streak since six on the bounce at this level in September 2000, but Dougie Freedman's side have only won three times on the road; the joint fewest in the Championship.
• If selected, Chung-yong Lee will be making his 100th league appearance in a Bolton jersey.

I'd have thought at least a 5-0 drubbing was in store today.

MICK McCarthy reckons there is no mystery behind why Wanderers have finally started to challenge for a play-off spot.
The Ipswich boss – who was strongly linked with a move to the Reebok when Owen Coyle was sacked back in October – yesterday reeled off what he thought would be the Whites' starting 11.
And McCarthy reckons the riches at Dougie Freedman's disposal are among the best in the divison.
Asked what has changed for Wanderers in recent weeks, the Yorkshireman gave a typically forthright answer.
“Good players – that’s what has clicked,” he said.
“You can probably name their team: Ricketts, Knight, Alonso and Dawson at the back, Pratley and Spearing are both Premier League players, Lee and Eagles are Premier League wingers and then you’ve got Kevin Davies and N’Gog (up front).
“There aren’t many Championship teams that people can name like that.
“Whatever happened before Dougie (Freedman) went in, I don’t know. But he’s playing 4-4-2 now, they’re very solid and, having watched the DVDs, they are working their socks off.
“If you’ve got good players who are prepared to work hard then you end up with a good team.”
Even though Wanderers have strength in depth, McCarthy still believes his Tractor Boys are capable of halting their opponents' five-match winning streak.
“They are a good team. I think it’s a really solid team in every single position, certainly in this league,” McCarthy said.
“ Cardiff were miles in front of us though (0-0 away draw), Nottingham Forest were on a good run and – when it was eleven v eleven – they never looked like beating us.
“Every game is different. They might come here and play awful, we’ll beat them and everyone will say ‘where did that come from?’ They might come here and be brilliant and beat us.
“It just takes one incident to change the whole course of the game.”
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Re: Away at Mick McCarthy's Super Ipswich Town
I read yesterday that Dougie was in the running for manager of the month.
If that doesn't mean we're domed am not sure what does.
0-2 defeat.
