Don't know about anyone else, but I'd take the rest of today being washed out and come back tomorrow morning nice and sunny without a cloud in the sky, thanksbye.

Lyth gone. And so should his England chances be. Awful shot. Beyond awful.

No depth in the openers' position though must say.
Cook caught. Very unlucky.

An Hour's highlights on Channel 5 at 7-0 for those ( including me) who haven't seen any cricket.
Presumably whilst they're still playing?

Bell stated to have "thrown his wicket away" trying to go down the pitch and leather one. 53.
Early stumps, rain stopped play. 133-3.

Re: 2015 Ashes
The plus side of having had to drive to Glesga and back for a meeting today (other than for having lunch with the girl that Thommo was knobing) was that I got to listen to huge chunks of the third test. Just watching the highlights now and The Aussies really did bat that badly

Re: 2015 Ashes
Like the last test I peeped on line to see that rain was there and that we were 3 wickets down and though "shut, another disaster". I had no idea the Aussies had been & gone.
I must pay more attention.

Re: 2015 Ashes
120 odd for three would hardly be a disaster under any circumstances....
I'm still annoyed how shit the pitch was at Lords. Why give the Aussies the almost perfect pitch for them? No movement, even bounce, perfect for their batsmen. And their bowlers will always extract more from a flat pitch than ours as they are that bit quicker and more used to bowling on those sort of wickets.

Re: 2015 Ashes
I'm not sure what a good score would be on that pitch, but a first innings lead of anywhere over 200 would be fantastic.

Re: 2015 Ashes
Keeping in mind the unpredictability of cricket and remembering they got 600 in one innings, 200 lead might be good....then again, it might not...Bijou Bob wrote:I'm not sure what a good score would be on that pitch, but a first innings lead of anywhere over 200 would be fantastic.

Re: 2015 Ashes
Just bat sensibly. Go for shots and put the pressure on but don't get ahead of themselves. Any sort of lead of 100 plus should be enough to make it very hard for the Aussies.
A lot depends on the weather. If the sun comes out then batting might become easier as the pitch apparently is flat once it dries out.

Re: 2015 Ashes
the wicket and conditions made that ball quite lively, I'm glad to see us near their total and we should surpass it.
see what happens tomorrow but form todays standard, us making +250 I would be happy

Re: 2015 Ashes
Absolutely. Only way this match doesn't finish is if there's a total washout which is out of our hands. Nice and sensible, no rush, bat for as long as we can and get as many as we can. Sounds simple enough.BWFC_Insane wrote:Just bat sensibly. Go for shots and put the pressure on but don't get ahead of themselves. Bell must be kicking himself tonight. Lyth must be delighted there doesn't seem to be anyone else.

Apart from Compton, Hales and Stoneman. All the other counties of course have opening batsmen who are no doubt being monitored.Prufrock wrote:Absolutely. Lyth is new to the test match arena, he needs to calm down and not go chasing runs and accept that overs will go by where he doesn't score. He has a very good first class average, there is definitely something there.
He is being given a chance, England teams of old seldom did that. I'm pretty sure that we don't want to go back to those days.

Well, I for one am glad we lost the toss as Cook would have stuck us in to bat, the cock!

Bairstow and Stokes bounced out by Johnson.
