i have had to do it a couple of times, i just send em an email, "really sorry, thanks for the opportunity, but its miles more cash and less hours.. etc" then they call you in their office, this way they already know the script and you dont have to break the news. also if you happy to be leaving you can lie about the salary at the new place, you never know, your boss may match it!?

I had this conversation once over, I'd already spoken to boss concerned relating salary and he offered me a meeting to discuss. He spent the first 20 minutes, running through at some length how I was below the HR benchmark data against "industry standards" for my grade/seniority etc. and came up with a plan to rectify it. Only problem was, I had two job offers in my back pocket, that showed that his benchmark data was out by some considerable margin (at least 75% too low)...I left on good terms and am still in contact with the guy who now works for a different company - never know when I might need a favour from himGeneral Mannerheim wrote:i have had to do it a couple of times, i just send em an email, "really sorry, thanks for the opportunity, but its miles more cash and less hours.. etc" then they call you in their office, this way they already know the script and you dont have to break the news. also if you happy to be leaving you can lie about the salary at the new place, you never know, your boss may match it!?
