My misunderstanding. I wouldn't want to misrepresent you. I read the paragraph as a whole with the first phrase in mind. I now recognise it is a comment on the cynicism of the broadcasting media, and concurr. Highlighted above is a comment that makes me wonder if you share it?Daxter wrote:William the White wrote:And this makes you laugh? Really?Daxter wrote:I'm not quite sure that's the right comparison WTW. It was a joke done in poor taste, not a malicious attack. Life goes on.
Like, someone spits on me at a bus stop, then my daughter, then my grandchild, then says, i'm sorry, i meant it as a laugh, my life goes on. Sometimes that isn't the point.
Life goes on until you die, for all of us, and shouldn't be made gratuitously worse, because it's the quality or our lives that's at stake not its length...
Is that hard to understand?
Fact is that the girl in question, will actually benefit greatly from the publicity given the nature of her work.
Not that that makes it right, of course.
What makes me laugh is, that when the Daily Mail picked the story up(a week after it having been broadcasted) there had been two complaints registered. Now, we have a grand total of 10, 000 the majority of who, I doubt have listened to show. The BBC won't sack them though, as they are guaranteed ratings. If they did give them the boot, channel 4 would snap Ross up, and Brand's career hardly depends on his radio work. That little tidbit doesn't William, though I didn't suggest it did?
Edit - with an apology - you do say 'not that that makes it right'... and you are right...
Ah, right you are. Yeah, I just think it's been a bit silly how a lot of people in response to this story have been whipped into a frenzy by the Daily Mail and other outlets, alot of who seem to have their own agendas, rather than genuine concern for Sachs or his granddaughter.William the White wrote:My misunderstanding. This!Daxter wrote:Can I just say this whole story, IMO has been blown out of proportion. I listened to the show at the time and found it hilarious.
Moreover, I find it disgraceful the way Brand is being made out to be the evil bastard when it was ROSS that made the "lewd comments" and then further goaded Russell into make more phone calls.
I love them both, and together the show was hilarious.
Typical British public though, outrage over nothing really. On Monday it was "67 compains" (whoopdedoo) and on Tuesday it was "thousands of complaints" meaning people who didn't even know about it until it was publicised have now complained...OR...the media are liars...guess which!
The show was pre-recorded meaning the BBC did not check the content of the show before it aired. If they had done, then the swearing would most certainly have been edited out, and perhaps the actual phone calls themselves. Of course the presenters are still to blame for doing these things, but they should never have aired and as it was a pre-record there is no reason this should have even happened.
Yes, he did. The pig ignorant media are showing the song (that Ross suggested they do) as the apology when in REALITY (you know, that thing the Daily Mail don't live in) Russell apologised at the top of the very next show, sincerely I might add.bobo the clown wrote:the reality is though that he didn't apologise.
Well said. I find it absolutely horrendous that this makes headline news, I really do. The country is in a right state and this is the headline?Verbal wrote:The mon said something bad

I also find it kinda hilarious that Sach's grand-daughter is said to have "been offended"...yeah right, anyone heard of her or see pictures? She'll make a fortune out of this and Russ and Ross have probably done her a favour, her career will get a large boost out of this.
I'm sure this will run and run though, makes a change from all the racially motivated crimes, old grannies being raped and murdered, children being abducted, warmongering and other real crimes though doesn't it.

if you think brand's apology was sincere you're easily confused
while I feel that this has been blown up beyond all proportions, there was a foiled assassination plot on the probable next US president that got feck all coverage, I don't see how anyone can think brand is a talentless vapid cock I don't know. At least Ross has delivered a hand-written apology in person, brand said a bit on the radio, qualifying what he'd done as "funny", very big of him.

I was waiting for something like this to crop up.Verbal wrote:You've read it then mummy?mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Well... all he did was read her, admittedly absurd, autobiography.Verbal wrote:Simon Amstell, the host of Never Mind the Buzzcocks, infuriated a guest so much by insulting his wife, he left the stage.
Either way, still shows a lack of respec'
I think its fairly easy to see how the two are different. One is a show where guests can choose to participate or not, fully aware of what will happen. That isn't a critique of the morality or quality of whats on offer, simply pointing out there is a level of complicity. When someone makes an unsoliicited phone call to you theres no level of consent.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

Read something in the metro today with Sachs saying he had recieved a written apology by both of them now.communistworkethic wrote:if you think brand's apology was sincere you're easily confused

Full front page of t'Sun. "My Granfather is distraught.......now sack these sickos" with a picture of said bint looking moody.Tombwfc wrote:I thought it was quite funny and they didn't say anything all that offensive. I've heard comedians say far worse things than 'He's fecked your granddaughter'.
Sachs' granddaughter is a burlesque dancer with a group called the 'Satanic Sluts' and is apparently planning on selling her story. So i'm sure she's coping aswell.
They probably did cross a line, but the idea that this is a matter for Gordon Brown and David Cameron to discuss is absurd. People need to get some real problems.
Full abuse revealed: pages 4,5,6 &7.
Good work.
Havent heard it myself but I think I'll have a read of the transcript and then decide it isnt funny.
Fair point with the compliancy. However, I think that when he signed up he thought he would be getting the abuse, not his missus, which is only fair. I still stand by what I said regarding Mock the Week.Lord Kangana wrote:I was waiting for something like this to crop up.Verbal wrote:You've read it then mummy?mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Well... all he did was read her, admittedly absurd, autobiography.Verbal wrote:Simon Amstell, the host of Never Mind the Buzzcocks, infuriated a guest so much by insulting his wife, he left the stage.

Aye Verbal, I've seen the show, twice actually, just as funny second time round. He didn't make any comment at all, just quoted the book and looked to Pratson for some feedback with a highly questioing expression.mummywhycantieatcrayons wrote:Well... all he did was read her, admittedly absurd, autobiography.Verbal wrote:Simon Amstell, the host of Never Mind the Buzzcocks, infuriated a guest so much by insulting his wife, he left the stage.
Let's see -
Granddaughter sells story to The Sun (today), gets large cheque for doing so
Ross gets sacked from BBC and offered big contract elsewhere (and sells story)
Brand gets sacked, sells story, continues to be an in-demand media whore as he's 'controversial'
Everybody wins (except possibly the BBC)

And License payers as at least we wouldn't be directly paying Russell Brands wages. Something I find offensive in the extreme!ratbert wrote:Let's see -
