Would you swap Elmo for Anelka now?

At this very moment in time, I don't know that I would swap Elmander for Drogba, David Villa, or Eto'o.

The post I made in here got deleted in the board update, so I will try and recreate it exactly. Odelay, if you want to also reply to me as you did earlier I can then re-deliver my witty riposte...

Oh dear, people seem to have got a bit carried away with the Elmander hype.

Yes, he's in a good patch of form. However, Anelka has been one of the top strikers in the Premier League for the last few years.

There are about 20 or so Premier League Forwards I would trade Elmo for without any hesitation.

Yep. Then in Jan I'd sell Anelka to Chelsea for £15m and buy Elmo off them for £8m. Do that a few times and it'll be 'what debt?'. As it goes, right now, for the Blackpool game, I wouldn't swap him for anyone at all.

As for the one year deal, it was my idea. Go check.

Well assuming we're talking about permanent, straight-up swaps, I'll go for...

Anelka
Drogba
Rooney
Berbatov
Macheda
Hernandez
van Persie
Arshavin
Tevez
Balotelli
Torres
Carroll
Defoe
Bent
Rodallega
Gyan
Adebayor
Agbonlahor

That's a conservative 18, and there're probably around 10 youngsters I'd swap for because of future potential.

Didn't someone have a song out many years ago called St. Elmo's Fire? We should play that when he scores!

John Parr, but I'm not sure it actually uses the name. Certainly not memorably.

EDIT It's here, all parping synth-horns and straining vocals, but likesay not memorable. The words appear at 1'25", if you (understandably) can't be arsed wading through the preamble.

Yeah, of course. He's 18 years old and gets a game for Man U pretty regularly. I'd do it just for financial reasons.

Berbatov isn't playing any better than Elmo at the minute. Macheda? Aside from the fact that he looks like a reet chav, he hasn't proven ANYTHING yet
Balotelli, again, hasn't proven anything in the Premier League yet
Carroll is a liability off the pitch atm, and has only been in the league this season, undeserved England cap aside. Again, unproven
Gyan - read the same as Balotelli. Also, can't take a penalty under pressure
Agbonlahor - pace and not much else. Elmander might be slower than him, but he's a damn sight stronger
On current form, I wouldn't switch St. Elmo for anybody.

Since when is a player's value determined entirely by current form?

Rooney hasn't been playing well lately and has had massive off-field problems, I'm pretty sure Bolton would still do a swap for Elmo.

Also, how has Elmander proved any more than Macheda? Yeah, he's scored some good goals of late, but so has Macheda (who is 18).

I guess you mean "other than all the other Clubs he's played for and his international experience"?

I'm glad you're not picking the team bud.

Macheda might be a good un in years to come. At the minute, you really would swap him - would you?

Hernandez - c'mon your just suggesting him because he's young and plays for United aren't you?

Rodallega - almost identical goal-scoring record to Elmander with same number of games played.

Van Persie??? He's always fecking injured - great signing he'd be - Reckon Bolton could sustain a "record signing" who averages 13 starts a season for Arsenal (over 7 years)

Balotelli - frozen out by Mourinho - prize cockend. Don't think we'd risk him either.

I was merely responding to truewhite, who stated that he wouldn't swap for Balotelli because he hadn't proved anything in the Premier League. Elmander hasn't proved much more than Macheda in the Premier League, but obviously has internationally.

Seriously though, if you wouldn't swap Elmander for Macheda you're either incredibly short-sighted or just completely blinded by pro-Bolton bias.

I'm almost certain Coyle would bite your hand off if you offered him a straight swap.
