You're about 30 years too late for that advice.

Thanks everyone for your donations so far.
I have raised nearly £500 for the two charities in just two weeks.

Re: I AM IRONMAN!!!! (Well, hopefully)
Quick update. Today marks the start of my 20 week programme leading up to race day. Unfortunately I have been unable to train these last 2 weeks due to a back injury. However I aim to do a little jog today to test it.
Here's hoping.......

^ I know. 20 weeks is plenty of time to iron out niggles and stuff but you wouldn't want any more whole fortnight's to go for a Burton. He's got the ability and it won't go pear shaped for lack of training or preparation I'm sure. Luck with injuries plays such a massive part

Thanks for your concern. 3.6 miles done today. My back aches a little but no major reaction. I was a bit concerned a week ago but feel so much better for that 30 minutes this afternoon.
Whatever happens I'll make that start line on June 17th.

Might be better if you leave it another month mate! Then again, you may win it if you complete the course in June!Gary the Enfield wrote:Thanks for your concern. 3.6 miles done today. Just completed a slow 7 miler. Again no reaction so it's back on with the training. See you all in JULY.

Had a full week's training this week (more or less).
Nothing fell off so I guess it's on.

Thank you. I had a 'Bike Fit' yesterday which involved pissing about with my seat position/ handlebars and other bits and bobs to give me the 'Optimum' ride.
Have to say I am much more comfortable although I could throw a few grand at a completely new bike which would be built for me rather than trying to retro fit me onto an existing bike.
Hey Ho!

An occasional running buddy of mine was on FB and the BEN this week. He's an incredible athlete and having completed Iron man a few times, he now coaches Triathletes. Last weekend he hit a pothole on Sheephouse Lane whilst draughting and did an emergency stop on his face
Let's be careful out there G!

Yeah, I saw that, his youngest son is a mate of mine. Looked pretty nasty.Harry Genshaw wrote:An occasional running buddy of mine was on FB and the BEN this week. Cheers. Mate of mine posted the link. He was behind a couple of guys and didn't have time to react when they swerved as I read it. Peloton riding is f**king mental. They sit literally centimetres off your back wheel.
Then there's this:

I much prefer lone cycling.
Re: I AM IRONMAN!!!! (Well, hopefully)
Yes I know him, it popped up on my FB feed and I genuinely thought it was a horror style makeover. Especially since he was smiling for the camera! Looked like he has a red golf ball stuck to his cheekbone, but it was actually part of his face. His 24 hours later photo was a lot better but still looked painful.
I'm a scaredy rider at the best of times with my shit eyesight and that sort of thing doesn't help me!

Re: I AM IRONMAN!!!! (Well, hopefully)
6 weeks now completed of 20
44 hours of Swimming, Cycling and Running up to yesterday.
I have to say I'm quite beginning to enjoy myself and the gradual build up of this programme makes that next step achievable. As with all these things there are lots of people wanting to give you advice on what you should be doing. I'm trying to stay focussed otherwise I'll be off doing 100 mile sportives (bike ride) and 10km swims which will only serve to unsettle and tire me too soon.
This week I have swum 5,115m, run 22 miles and cycled for 4.5 hours. Still some way to go but a decent start I think.
