...and immediately goes off injured. However, sub Alex Samizadeh scores within a minute of coming on! Hooray for our many youthful strikerses!

Domed.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
"I understand you are a very good footballer" ... "I try".

Madine is not the kind of old and haggard pro I'd want the kids learning from. Who was in our squad when Michael Ricketts became the super sub? Ian Marshall? Dean Holdsworth? Good solid pros who'd been around the block. We need a good eye for a couple of veterans with winning mentalities this summer.

On the point of Danns: I've moaned about him all season and he's definitely no longer a Champ player. BUT I'd offer him a deal for League One.

I've got nowt against him, and wouldn't throw up my hands in despair if he got a year's deal... but I worry that since Lennon arrived Dannsy's game has been all about high-tempo pressing, and doing it for so long and so consistently – he started almost every game of Lennon's first 50 or so, unless suspended – appears to have been broken him.

I'd be tempted to part on cordial terms, tell him we're coppering up (andofftherecord trying to get rid of some still-contracted high-earners nudge wink), see who else is available, and maybe go back to him later in the summer if he's not fixed up.

Remember too that we'll almost certainly have a new manager. The last four, to a greater or lesser extent, have complained about some of the players/contracts they inherited – and our finances are a lot worse now. For all Deano's talk of being involved in the footballing decisions, it would be daft for a skint club to grant a contract extension before even knowing who the manager is.

Danns has burnt out at this level, and if we were staying up I'd chuck him instantly. I was a bit peeved he got a new contract last season under Lennon because he'd had his day.

But ... I do think he'd do a job at League One level. He's experienced but not as fossilised as Heskey, and we can use him as needed. I agree, though, that we should wait until a new manager comes in.
