Champions League tonight

There ARE other teams(we'd have no-one to play otherwise) and here's where all-comers can discuss the wider world of football......

Frank Lampard's mother died this afternoon - meaning I guess he'll be unlikely to play against Man United at the weekend and probably us as well.

That quote of Shankly's doesn't always work - some things are more important than football, and to lose your mother at the age of 58 is horrible. He's a good pro, and I wish him all the best in coming to terms with his loss.

United take the lead, but it's not safe as a 1-1 draw sends them out.

They're looking much more up for it than Barca - closing them down all over and denying them space, forcing mistakes like the pass which led to the goal.

I do so hope Barca score! :D

When United play a decent team at home in Europe, an away goal is always likely - although admittedly not as much now they're more fluid than with Van Nistelrooy, with whom they only reached the semis once (in his first season). Mind, tonight they have Hargreaves at right-back...

Not been impressed by Barcelona at all so far, hopefully they'll prove me (and clearly, themselves) wrong in the second half...

Why? I want to see the tanks out on Red Square for a Man U, Liverpool final.

Must say though mate, Messi looks electric every time he gets the ball.

I've heard from well-placed sources that UEFA were definitely worried about the fringe possibilities of a Rags-Pool final in Greece last year. Haven't heard such worries about this year.

They've kept repeating this all game as well. This is Davo on a bad day, with a broken leg.

That's because Pleat is a commentating nice person - as it hit 86 minutes 'I think they shouldn't bother pushing for the 2nd goal any more'. A) They'd not been pushing for it since about the 25th minute, B) Really?! You fecking think? 4 mins to go and you reckon they should hold out for the win? Football genius...

Messi looked a cut above his teammates today, they had no incisiveness.

I'm looking forward to the sob stories of tear gas and water cannons in Red Square already.

Couldn't happen to a nicer set of 'fans'. As a bonus, whoever plays them will get an equal amount of my sympathy.

Apart from Messi, Barcelona were very poor. For all their possession and passing, they created precious few chances, simply trying to walk it into the net.

Having been to Moscow several times, I look forward to see how the Russian police deal with the drunkards :)
