Sorry but Klasnic in no way replaces Elmander. I can't see how we could play the same high pressing high tempo game with Klasnic up front considering he's knackered after half a hour and doesn't exactly do a lot in that time as it is!David Lee's Hair wrote:I'm not entirely convinced we don't already have the ideal replacement.BWFC_Insane wrote:Elmander would be impossible to directly replace in January and a big loss but we'd have to muddle through.
Elmanders playing well, but in Klasnic, we have someone who will score more goals than Elmander. He may not offer the all round play Elmander does, but Elmander has still missed some pretty easy chances this season, which if served up in front of Klasnic would have been scored.
Ideal world Elmander signs on for another year at least. If he's not signed by the 31st Dec. Flog him, preferrably to Stoke should the rumours be believed, as he'll struggle there as he did with us under Megson.

If we want someone who can harry and chase down the defenders then we can use the young lad for that. Elmander isn't irreplaceable.

He isn't but we haven't got anyone in the squad who can replace his all round game. And we wouldn't be able to afford anyone who could either.East Lower wrote:If we want someone who can harry and chase down the defenders then we can use the young lad for that. Elmander isn't irreplaceable.
I stand by my belief that the form he's been in he's a 16M pound PLUS player on that form. Doesn't mean he could command that fee or keep that form up but had he played like this for the first season he was here across the whole season we'd have more than likely bagged our record incoming transfer fee.

But the important reality is that he didn't, and we didn't.
Therefore, I don't understand why he's irreplacable?
He isn't a £16m+ player, he could be, but then so could our entire squad if they always played to their potential. So why not get hold of an out of form player on the cheap, and get Coyle to work on them? As far as I see it, thats what happened here.

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

I'm sure should Elmander go that they will do that or more likely find a younger player.Lord Kangana wrote:But the important reality is that he didn't, and we didn't.

But lets not forget when we signed Elmander we did so because he'd played well for Toulouse and had been a good player across Europe. And he cost 8M quid. We're not going to have that kind of money to play with so its quite likely that Coyle will have to work whatever magic he has with a player of less ability than Elmander has.
My point about the 16M+ is that if you took his games this season in isolation thats where he'd be. Obviously he'd have to do it over a longer period.

Re: Another Year Older And Deeper In Debt!
indeed - Cahill is both easiest to replace (at least adequately - and let's face it, we are hardly the clean-sheet kings even with him in the side!) and most likely to realise us a decent amount of wonga... (maybe we could buy hangeland and piss wenger off?BWFC_Insane wrote:My point being Taylor is back in the side as he's playing better than his so called replacement.Lord Kangana wrote:Rather sell Taylor than Cahill.
And I'm afraid we're just going to have to disagree here. I don't hink we'd have scored the 4th against Spurs, the 2nd against United, the only goal at Villa without him.
In fact his last performance was top draw. So he'll stay in.
Of course if we lost him it'd give Petrov a chance and it'd not be the end of the world.
But Cahill we know is going, whether its sooner or later. I should imagine unless something intervenes like an injury or loss of form he won't be here come the start of next season anyways. And we can muddle by with Ricketts and Knight and perhaps a younger replacement, especially considering centre halves aren't as expensive as wingers and strikers.
Thats why if anyone goes in January (apart from possibly Elmander for contract reasons) then IMO it'll be Cahill.

I can see us tackling a large part of our probelm without hurting our team.
I can see max 5 million wage saving (EDIT..make that 6.5 as I overlooked Gardner)
I'm past worrying about our finances
We're fcuked...probably

Its pretty clear what BWFCI is trying to say
His argument is to get a player capable of performing at the level Elmander has been doing would cost us 16 million
Maybe he's right, maybe he's not but his output puts him in the top bracket of prem strikers currently and its the 'currently' that we'd be losing should he go

But if he goes its because we choose to let him go
And I'd prefer we kept him as the effect on finances would be a drop in the ocean
15 million then I'd wave him on his way
Oh aye, the loss of Cahill would also be much bigger than we want to believe

How so? We can't force him to sign a new deal.CAPSLOCK wrote:IndeedZulus Thousand of em wrote:If he goes, he goes. Twas ever thus.

Re: Another Year Older And Deeper In Debt!
Well indeed but I suppose the issue being that if the club know that Elmander won't sign a new deal then they might have little choice if a 3M plus offer came in for him.CAPSLOCK wrote:I meant in January
Its true that potentially keeping him till the end of the season could be worth more but factoring in his wages and the fee and the financial situation then it would be a little silly given that all we'd be doing is delaying the need for replacement and then leaving us nowt to replace him with.
Re: Another Year Older And Deeper In Debt!
indeed - but the compensation for Cahill's loss is likely to be larger than the compensation for Elmo's loss - hence softening the blow... and whilst it is not everyone's forte (Mr Wenger!) finding an adequate CB to partner Knight would probably be easier than finding a new Elmander on our budget...CAPSLOCK wrote:IndeedZulus Thousand of em wrote:If he goes, he goes. Oh, I agree
In fact, Ricketts would get first dibs for me
We shouldn't lose sight of how good Cahill is

Indeed, I remember us looking more solid with Ricketts and Knight whilst Cahill was out with blood-clot-ouch than we ever did with Cahill and Knight. Kept more clean sheets too.CAPSLOCK wrote:Oh, I agree

I've not checked back in the thread to see if this has been posted so if it has you have my apologies. This gives much more detail behind the club finances than I've read elsewhere and demonstrates just how much we're in debt (in every interpretation of the word!) to Mr Edwin Davies. I just hope he's got loads more of the folding stuff that he doesn't need his £83m back anytime soon
