Re: Wiggin
It was almost like the game livened up when all the 22 players went from tired to really really tired in the 2nd half.
Should've seen them off but we've benefited from lots of late goals at the Reebok recently and can't ask for that every time, nor can we expect to win every time when we need to score 2 or 3 to do it.

Disappointed with the crowd tonight, not just in numbers but in noise too! Home and away, away fans especially, embarrassing. Derby my arse.
Re: Wiggin
I'll say what has been said before, I think.
Mark Davies and Muamba isn't working.
Lost count the number of times M Davies lost the ball tonight and failed to retreive it. Watch their goal and see how far he follows the ball without putting a tackle in.
Muamba. Who else thought "Anyone but him" when he broke through at the end. Gave the ball away too much probably due to his head being down looking at his feet. Trust your feet Fabrice. They are still there!
Kevin Davies, new hair cut from the wife but really looks out of sorts.
Rodrigo, great finish, some great runs but final ball? more practice needed me thinks.
What was dissapointing is the fact Coyle left it too late to bring Petrov on. He seemed to shit em up. Then Blake came on and what a difference. I think every pass he made led to a chance. Had this been made earlier the pressure would have brought another goal. Only 1 defeat at home is still a remarkable acheivement at this stage of the season but no win in 3 is a little worrying.
Oh and Robinson, another good performance. Love the fire in that mans belly.
Onwards and upwards.

I recommend an initiative whereby "hymn" sheets are handed out to every fan through the door, with all the old style chants on them - and we employ a fan to stand at the front of the stand and "conduct". And some sort of rousing, inspirational video should be shown to the fans pre-kick off, as well...General Mannerheim wrote:Disappointed with the crowd tonight, not just in numbers but in noise too! Re: Clancy Wiggum
The Edited replay was on at midday.
Got up after 12:40pm and even though I set it to record it wasn't recording, so I pressed record and one minute later we scored.
Got back from getting smokes and it was the third minute out of eight in extra time.

Re: Wiggin
Again, couldn't watch it b/c Korean TV aired the game delayed at 5am. An no one is bothering to upload the game either. No one here cares about Bolton if CYL's not playing.
Sounds like we should have won. Anyone else notice that in so many of our games we only seem to turn it on with about 10-15 minutes left in the game? Why can't we show up from the whistle?

Re: Wiggin
We need a striker who is consistant, I know Mandy puts a shift in these days and has banged a few in this season but his finishing still leaves much to be desired at crucial times. He should have had a hat trick last night and we need to put away some of these lesser teams if we want to finish top ten.

We need more goals so lets replace our top goalscorer.Hoboh wrote:We need a striker who is consistant, I know Mandy puts a shift in these days and has banged a few in this season but his finishing still leaves much to be desired at crucial times. FFS.
Talk about stupidity.
Pollitt made 2 great saves last night, there was not a lot Elmander could do with either chance. He hit them both sweetly and the keeper made 2 fantastic stops. In neither case did Elmander have a lot of choice.
Davies missed 2 headers both of which should have at least been on target and had he got the one in the second half on target it would have been a goal.
If you've decided that "goalscoring" is our main problem then surely you should be looking for a partner for Elmander who can also bang them in as regularly?
Personally its clear to me that our weakest areas are in midfield and at the back.

It was very low. Looks like the 2-3,000 we managed to coax back discovered it's not as much fun and exciting as first hyped!General Mannerheim wrote:Disappointed with the crowd tonight, not just in numbers but in noise too! Home and away, away fans especially, embarrassing. Derby my arse.
Re: Wiggin
Sorry to have to say it but that's nonsense. It only needed a calm sidefoot either side of the keeper. The keeper didn't make great saves - Elmander hit him. Elmander isn't a natural finisher - wasn't when we bought him and never will be. Wach him in the warm up and he's clinical beating Bogdan. Put him in a match situation and he panics and doesn't look up to see what his options are. He ran himself ragged last night - again - but got absolutely no help at all from SKD. Hust a comment on Rodrigo - how man times last night did he get the ball wide right with 3 or 4 defenders round him and, with the occasional exception of Ricketts, not a single one of our men went towards him to give him options. He looks a great prospect - not the finished article of course - but he's only 19 isn't he?BWFC_Insane wrote:We need more goals so lets replace our top goalscorer.Hoboh wrote:We need a striker who is consistant, I know Mandy puts a shift in these days and has banged a few in this season but his finishing still leaves much to be desired at crucial times. Re: Wiggin
Thought the back four were poor - Ricketts was Steinsson-esque in his inability to close people down early enough, which cost us the goal, then Muamba was just abysmal. Bring back McCann all is forgiven!
Elmander, Davies and Taylor were equally ineffective, barring the scuffing of basic chances. Also a concern was the number of times we fecked up basic things like control and passing. Poor all round.
Also, 13/2 on Rodrigo! What's that all about?!
Time to bring in the reinforcements Owen, another striker, another midfielder and another defender, minimum. I'd go for Vela, Whittingham and Wheater for starters.

The first one he chested down and was going away from goal. Perhaps there is an argument he could have lifted it, but I'm not sure he could do anything other than that.Bruno3 wrote:Sorry to have to say it but that's nonsense. The second one came over his shoulder and he hit on the volley, not sure how he could have given it a "calm sidefoot" in that instance.
Pollitt did well in both cases to make himself a big target and close down the angles.
My point is that he's our top scorer. So if goals/finishing are a real issue (which I don't think they are) then we should be looking at others, mainly his strike partner rather than Elmander himself.
Re: Wiggin
O.k. been home had the sleep now back at work and having lunch.
Disappointing. Wanted a win, needed a win and really over the course of the game deserved a win. The first half was pretty dire. M. Davies I didn't even notice on the pitch but the commentators did as they commented on what a brilliant game he was having. Hmm. Rodrigo looked more comfortable on the ball but had no finish. The passing was really sloppy and only dangerous balls put into the box by Matty Taylor gave any hope.
2nd half we were much better. M. Davies now got involved and Rodrigo looked more dangerous plus the team started moving better allowing Elmander to get more involved. It was fitting for the beautiful goal by Rodrigo, set up by M. Davies of course.
After the Kirkland injury it seemed to wake up Wiggin, and we seemed to fall back so instead of putting the game away they scored an equalizer. We then cranked it up and completely dominated the last 10 - 15 minutes. Should have won. Hell we should have scored a few. Petrov was on fire out there as Wiggin looked very tired. Mind you 2 of their subs were used on injuries so it was understandable.
Positive point. Rodrigo is defininately one to follow. Very confident on the ball, but needs to produce better crosses into the box. Won us a few corners but Petrov put more good balls into the box in 20 seconds on the pitch than Rodrigo did in the whole game. Still showed real promise and look forward to see how he does in the FA cup game.
Negative point: back four way too inconsistant. Muamba only seems comfortable when he has Holden near him.

Oh and thought M Davies was too deep. Should have tried playing further up the pitch.

Re: Wiggin
I'm totally surprised anyone can take anything positive out of that game !!
Without going into specifics, we were unable to beat a VERY VERY POOR Wigan side, and any tactics that we had last night were woefully below par in my view.
Last night's performance was the culmination (and by far the worst) of about 5 or 6 matches were we are gradually going back to our old ways of playing (Gary Megson-esque for want of a better term!!)
I can't believe Coyle said on MOTD that we were "terrific", as the whole 98+ minutes reminded me of the Hull match last year. And to be honest if a Gary Megson team had served up that dross last night he would have, quite rightly, got crucified.
Lack of a fully fit squad is no excuse as the Wigan side last night are the poorest team I have seen at the Reebok in many a year.
No wonder only 18000 turned up to watch that rubbish as it was far from the new style of play that I thought we were turning to.
I was bitterly disappointed last night with the whole thing.

Oh and Elmander and Kirkland - pair of tarts. Both pulled out of that challenge and were both afraid of the ball. If that had been someone else they'd have stopped on their feet and gone round the keeper and slotted home. But not Elmander, that's not how he does it. Donkey.
