Burnden. You can see from this that Bolton played at Burnden in 1902.Bruce Rioja wrote:Oh wow. So will that have been at an early Burnden or at Pikes Lane?

Facing the Paddock I'd say given the terraced houses behind the (Lever) end to the right.jaffka wrote:Is it facing the paddock or Manchester road?

Re: Trotters pics
Did the paddock have a covered stand then? I thought that Manchester road was the first covered stand?

Re: Trotters pics
Brilliant bit of footage that. I'd say it was taken in front of the Manny Rd and facing the paddock, as that must be the embankment on the left with the train running past.

Re: Trotters pics
All correct. Facing the Paddock with the embankment to the left of screen and a goods train passing by. The two arms that look like they're coming out from the big chimney and look like scaffold, are actually the old style stop/go railway signal arms. If you watch closely you'll see them move.

Watch the goods train when it crosses the pic. It's running along the top of the embankment.Gary the Enfield wrote:Is that not the old Embankment in the background?

Didn't realise that GTE, sorry. The embankment runs from left to right (or vice-versa) behind the goals as it ever did....Gary the Enfield wrote:TANGODANCER wrote:Watch the goods train when it crosses the pic. Re: Trotters pics
Some time ago I discovered that if you enter 'Bolton British Pathe' into the search bar on Youtube, you can find quite a few old clips of Bolton at Burnden and elsewhere. There's an absolute belter of a video of the White Horse final, featuring the build-up, highlights and an unfortunately silent interview with the victorious captain Joe Smith, which can be found here, and then there's this one which shows the 1926 FA Cup final. Some of the matches from the earlier rounds of the cup in the 20's and 50's have also been uploaded.
My favourite, however, has to be this one from a game at Burnden against the now defunct South Shields in 1926. Check out that mascot eight seconds in...

We lost 3-0 to South Shields and you dared to publish that....

Don't let the title of that video mislead you, TD. We beat them 3-0 and later went on to win the cup.TANGODANCER wrote:We lost 3-0 to South Shields and you dared to publish that....![]()
