No, just hand over the money now.Jakerbeef wrote:Folk here sound 'in the know'. I've a problem.
How difficult would it be to train to run a 4 minute mile? I made a wager with a mate that I'd do it before the end of 2013. I used to do cross country in primary and secondary school and always enjoyed it. Haven't ran in years though. Coming off 15-a-day habit too.![]()
I'm not winning this one am I?

The problem seems to be that it's a speed issue. If I'm not naturally inclined to speed over stamina I've got no hope and Bob Hope. There's the problem I may not even be able to reach 4-min mile speed, let alone maintain it.
I'm 29, unfit (though slim) and my memory of past fitness has got me in hot water...
I'll let you know how it goes.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Well, yeah, good luck
10k in 54.56 today. Somewhat quicker the other week's 61mins, although I didn't stop and walk for ten mins because I felt dizzy this time!
Feeling good.

Thought you'd started with your pal again, no? And anyway, you're footie training and presumably spending more time in the pool now too. Re: The athletics/running thread
Feel like i'm at the pool all the time now. Swimming lessons 4 days a week and taken the twins twice this week too. Problem is, i don'lt actually get the chance to do any swimming myself. Yes, footy training counts as one exercise session a week and i have been out with John a few times but not often enough.Bruce Rioja wrote:Thought you'd started with your pal again, no? Well, I'm not going to be doing a four-minute mile any time soon!
If I keep knocking 40 seconds off my 5k time, and two minutes off my 10k, I'll be happy
.
Should be world record pace by about March!

Had a 9 day break after injury and decided to fully rest on holiday. Couldn't half feel it tonight on a short tempo session. XC at Hyndburn on Saturday to see if the break has done me harm or good.

Similairly, I had a cold before I went to Spain and, due to a hip injury, only managed 2 x 20 minute jogs along the seafront, so practically no running in two weeks. Last Tuesday I had a 5k race and knocked 6 seconds on my previous race at that track. Strange.
Half Marathon at St Neots in less than two weeks.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Well, after that 10k two weeks ago my knee went all wrong. It hurt for a bit whilst running, and I thought it had gone away. I realised later it hadn't stopped hurting because it was fine, rather it had gone numb. Couldn't walk properly for two days. Still hurting for a week. Thought about going to the doctors, but I thought they'd only say rest it and if it still hurts in about a year, come back. Stopped hurting by last Tuesday, but still didn't feel quite right.
In the meantime I decided to buy some proper running shoes, as, genius that I am, I'd been doing 10k in astr-turf football boots, never good for the knee. I went out for the first time since today, in my new shoes, 5k in 25.06, which is quicker than last time, just, somehow. Knee isn't hurting so fingers crossed I'm fine tomorrow and I can step it up again to try to earn that respect from Crayons which keeps me going

Well? What shoes did you get?
My Half Marathon didn't go well yesterday as I was 2 minutes slower than the same race last year.
It's been a funny year really. I've done PBs in my 5k 10k 5 mile and 10 mile races but struggled on the longer distances.
My hip's giving me a lot of gip too, so it looks like another trip to the physio.
Re: The athletics/running thread
Nothing fancy. Just some that were on offer in Sports Direct. They aren't perfect by any means, but are a lot better than Astroturfs!
