Finally finished it......it was actually rather rubbish, not very revealing.......Annoyed Grunt wrote:It's going to take ages to finish this......can only stand doing a chapter at a time then have to leave it.......I can "hear" him saying the words....horrible...Annoyed Grunt wrote:I'm on chapter two so far........Burnden Paddock wrote:Hope you have the marigolds on, to avoid having to touch it.Annoyed Grunt wrote:I'm going to make a start on one of my Christmas presents.........and it isn't the Cavendish book.....
Ended up buying this for the b-I-l for a family gathering on NYE. Made Mrs BP pick it up and take it through the checkout.
Next up, At Speed: Mark Cevendish.

not reading, but enjoying a lot of Crash Course vids recently. In particular their bit on literature. Here's a video on the great gatsby

Right, well finished the book 30 years of hurt, found some of the stories interesting especially that of the Martin Kerr an England fan who was jailed at France 98 for a crime he did not commit and I certainly shed a thought for some of the problems some of the forums older members have faced when trying to watch a game of football - it makes football now seem rather peaceful.
I am now starting the book "chavs - the demonization of the working class" by Owen Jones.

The Book of the Damned - the collected works of Charles Fort.
I've heard of it of course, how could one not, after all it has given rise to an adjective fortean
but I've never actually read it...

The more I read this "Chavs" book the more and more I seem to hate Mrs Thatcher, if even a shed of your dandruff is working class then I would completely recommend it all though for those of you who were affected by Thatcherism it may be to painful. Owen Jones certainly knows how to attack the upper classes that run our political parties.danhorwich wrote:Right, well finished the book 30 years of hurt, found some of the stories interesting especially that of the Martin Kerr an England fan who was jailed at France 98 for a crime he did not commit and I certainly shed a thought for some of the problems some of the forums older members have faced when trying to watch a game of football - it makes football now seem rather peaceful.

Today is world book day.
The good news for WTW is it looks like there's lots of Shelves of Shame.
Bit off, of them to put an accompanying pic of Will's SOS with the article.

Re: What are you reading tonight?
Finally, after months, finished Thus Spoke Zarathustra.
F*ck me it's hard work, and vast swathes of it are bordering the incomprehensible. Glad I've read it though. Enough to just about make it worthwhile. Not quite sure I share the Nazis' interpretation of its central message, I have to say, but f*ck knows what half of it is on about.
Something a little lighter next, I think.

Very rarely read fiction but am currently half way through - The ragged trousered philanthropists and really enjoying it. Incredible that something written over 100 years ago is still so relevant today. I imagine some of the comment re religion would have upset many folk all them years ago
