Do people leap out unexpectedly and call her name?

Let's hope she doesn't meet this woman.

Woooaaaah there. Not taking the piss out of YOU at all, GG. Just out of parents that decide to call their baby Boo and then stick an H on the end as if to make it somehow interesting or exotic. Booh also rhymes with Pooh, so the poor child's in for a right old time of it on the nickname front when she gets to school. I can't believe that some parents don't think these things through properly - seriously.

In Quebec, where they tend to over-regulate our lives with laws in the interest of society, the government can reject a forename if considered inappropriate. The Registrar of Civil Status can do this if it is considered the child will be ridiculed or not taken seriously. If the parents refuse, they are still given a birth certificate but the matter is referred to the Attorney General, who takes the matter to court. The court then chooses two common first names for the child. I felt it was a bit intrusive but having read some of the selections here, perhaps not.

Indeed, to return to the start of this discussion, it's just such a (wo)/man as the Quebec Attorney General that I need to to utilise in the case of Tarquin's parents-to-be. Have you got his number, does he do freelance overseas litigation?

I fear not - you have to have a law, act or regulation for him/her to act (yes, I don't know who it is as we have just changed governments). So what you need to do is to get the UK parliament to pass legislation to protect the child from thoughtless parents.

I think something similar applies in France too. I seem to recall some official rejecting Coco as a forename a few years back.

New Zealand also has a few rules...

I think it'll be easier if I just engage the parents in conversation and mention that I think Henry is a classier prospect than Tarquin. Less hassle than trying to persuade 649 numpties to pass a sensible law.

There appear to be a lot of bizarre parents in New Zealand.

True if you only care about Tarquin (a proud name), but what about little Bohemia? If you have a social conscience and insufficient time to talk to all the parents, it may be easier to pass a law. You only have to persuade your local numpty and let him/her carry the ball.

I get your general drift regards taking part, but I'm off politics at the moment. And to be specific, it's far too late for little Bohemia, indeed she's probably now Greater Bohemia {aside wouldn't it be good if her surname was Cech} as she's born the burden for 15 years, but Tarquin I can save. It's my mission, I'm on it, in fact I'm leaving for home right now.

Just mentally going through my last class at primary school, I can remember :
Brian, Jack, John, James x 2. Donald, David x 2, Bernard, Herbert, Anthony, Frank, Michael, Billy, Walter.
Amongst the girls (it was a mixed class):
Pat, Connie, Maureen, Kathleen, Mary, Eileen, Margaret, Shiela.

We didn't do Chantelles' Samanthas' or Tarquins' or Everards on Halliwell.
