Well, here's a little something I've just discovered today.
Are any of you lot allergic to peanuts/nuts? I'm guessing there may well be one or two as it appears to be a condition confined to the western world, and we are in that demographic. More than 3 million Americans (citizens of the US, not the continent) claim to have a peanut allergy. And on occasion apocryphal stories are told of peanut allergy deaths.
Well pish, it's psychosomatic. The UN and charities throughout the world who fight famine know this for a little known fact. Outside of the G20 countries there has never been a known case, never mind death, of peanut allergy. In fact the main RUTF (Ready-to-use Therapeutic food) used in emergency famine situations is a food manufactured from and composed almost solely of peanut butter called Plumpy'nut. Over five hundred million meals of Plumpy'nut has produced exactly zero peanut allergy reactions in its target audience of the starved and malnourished. Not one. So pull yourself together and go and have a peanut butter sandwich to celebrate.

Well, I know for certain that my tongue thickens up if I eat nuts with skin on. Walnuts and hazelnuts especially.

My biggest allergy, very oddly, is anchovies. After my teens and early 20's getting migraines and finally isolating it to them I avoided them. However I ended up in hospital after eating one of those blighters without realising the canapé I'd scoffed contained one until my mouth blistered and tongue thickened and I then hit the deck.

Psychosomatic that yer spotty b'stard.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I found that one of the ingredients in our wedding cake made the former Mrs Rioja allergic to performing oral sex ever again. I believe it's quite a common complaint. :?

Nobody should eat anchovies anyway. Ever. Except perhaps if you're starving to death and the only food the UN has flown in are tins of anchovies. And even then I'd consider the alternative of sand. and I'm not even allergic to the buggers (or anything else).

It's easy to be cynical when completely allergy free (I'm dooooown with the starving millions) but I know a woman who is allergic to food basically. She eats gluten free this and peanut free that and alcohol free the other. She's also a coulrophobe, which, to the cynic in me, is about the real level most of her allergies are about.

This reminds me of a local joke. What is the difference between a woman who has been married for ten years and the Toronto Maple Leafs? Answer: The Leafs still suck.

hmmmmmm. I was going to be petty and throw in a bunch of Hab jokes and yes there are plenty of them of which sucking is a common theme, but I decided to take the highroad like most Leaf fans would and thus counter with this joke.

Dear Abby,
I have never written to you before, but I really need your advice. I have suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me.
The usual signs; phone rings but if I answer, the caller hangs up. My wife has been going out with "the girls" a lot recently although when I ask their names, she always says, "just some friends from work, you don't know them". I try to stay awake and look out for her when she comes home, but I usually fall asleep. Anyway, I have never broached the subject with my wife. I think deep down I just did not want to know the truth, but last night she went out again and I decided to finally check on her. Around midnight, I hid in the garage behind my hockey equipment so I could get a good view of the whole street when she arrived home from a night out with the girls. When she got out of the car she was buttoning up her blouse, and she took her panties out of her purse and slipped them on. It was at that moment, crouching behind my hockey gear, that I noticed a hairline crack where the blade meets the graphite shaft on my new one piece hockey stick.

Is this something I can fix myself or should I take it back to the pro-shop where I bought it?

Little known fact : Lenny Peters (the blind guy from Peters and Lee) was Charlie Watts uncle.
