Yeah i figured
but it is a definite point to be raised. The team has changed a lot of the years, and probably most noticeable is our lack of presence physically.

To be frank it is something I thought Freedman would reverse. I thought he'd go down the route he did at Palace and put bigger "beasts" in like Jedinak and Delaney.mrkint wrote:Yeah i figuredbut it is a definite point to be raised. Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Maybe given time he will change it. Our bigger players seem to shirk challenges and yet the smaller ones such as Medo and Spearing are the ones that take the risk. I'd love for another Abdoulaye Faye style centre half to come in, not great technically and suspect on the ground but an absolute beast aerially and physically.BWFC_Insane wrote:To be frank it is something I thought Freedman would reverse. Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Know what you mean but Eagles is 6ft (as is Andrews), Petrov nearly that, Pratley 6ft1, Mills 6ft2, Ngog 6ft3, Alonso 6ft2, Eaves 6ft3, Wheater 6ft5... Coyle signed a few players, and a reasonable sampling of them were tall. Maybe it's an accident of circumstance but now BWFCi mentions it, it's curious that Freedman has made a somewhat statistically skewed selection...
Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Are there any other CB's 'playing' for Premier League teams that DF could target as a potential signing and by playing I mean not getting in the team?
Pfffft.
Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
On a separate note I heard today Norwich are getting in Elmander, the jammy b*sta**s.
The above post is complete bollox/garbage/nonsense, please point this out to me at any and every occasion possible.

Hooper and Winkeldinkledodar will start ahead of him.

Todays Daily Fail
Leeds have secured the signing of Manchester United defender Scott Wootton on a three-year deal, for a fee of around £1million.
The 21-year-old centre-half, who can also play in either full-back position, has experience of playing in the Champions League as well as featuring in the League Cup last season.
Guess this will squash any ideas of Mills going there

He cost £8M. His replacements in NGog and Sordell cost £7M.
Sordell is now warming Charltons bench. NGog is well NGog.
I'd rather have Elmander to be honest.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
Good player Elmander, even if we only saw things spasmodically. Think sooner people realise that how a player is used by a manager and the effect team mates have on a players performance the better. Disappointed when he went as he just seemed to be hitting his stride and the fact that we'd spent so much to get nothing back.throwawayboltonian wrote:Interesting point of view. To me he always looked flashy and threatening, but rarely delivered apart from that brief period under Coyle.BWFC_Insane wrote:I don't know about overrated.throwawayboltonian wrote:So? You might also give him some credit and think that he might have seen through Coyle.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
See for me Elmander suffered because he was seen by the fans as Anelka's replacement and by Megson (I suspect) as a target man eventual Kevin Davies replacement.throwawayboltonian wrote: I don't think that Coyle used him "correctly" to paraphrase you, he often played him out of position in reality, I think that he just reacted better to his more fluffy man management than Megson's screaming and blaming. Understandable really.
However my point is that he was really overrated. Flashy player, but often didn't deliver. It was during the November-January period roughly IIRC when he was shit-hot, and even then turned tepid again. Towards the end of his time with us he didn't impress much (admittedly played out of position though, right midfield was it?).
I look back on him like Petrov; lots of skill, nice movement and such but rarely any end product. Even under Coyle when he played better. He contributed more than Petrov IMO, but in a similar way underwhelmed despite the potential and promise. Scored some nice goals though, that one against Wolves is one of the best I've ever seen.
Truth is that he was neither of those. Certainly not a regular goalscorer.
But I think he'd have played the "in behind a striker" role brilliantly. The sort of role we are asking NGog to play now.

Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
overated by who. I'd say most BWFC fans had a fairly negative view for most of his time with us. The fee paid (a lot for us) probably raised expectations to walk on water
both elmander and petrov are experienced international footballers which means a lot of football professionals in different countries think they are good at what they do. As BWFCi said would you rather have that or lots of journeymen / kids with potential ?

Depends what you mean by like. I think he was our best striker last year. I think he's got a lot of ability. I think he gets a lot of stick but works hard and is probably our most "skillful" player. And he can make things happen.thebish wrote:I thought you liked Ngog??BWFC_Insane wrote:I don't know about overrated.throwawayboltonian wrote:So? Overrated, always has been. But I think right now this is his level. And he's not going to bang 20 goals a season in even at this level.
If you gave me the choice of NGog and Sordell or Elmander I'd take Elmander every time.
It was only really a response to him being described as "overrated". Very much depends how you view that term.
Re: The "Nothing to see here"Transfer thread
hmmmm.... but I don't really see how it makes much sense to "rate" a player by reference to the cost of another bought at a different time and in different circumstances - down that path lies madness - especially when you take Andy Carroll into account...
best way to "rate" Elmander in the context of this thread would be to suggest whether you think he will make a significant difference to Norwich's premiership fortunes... the jury (surely) is still out on that one...

Well he's getting on a bit now. I think he would be a big improvement for us. But Norwich? They've already signed a few strikers and I don't know how much of an improvement he'd be over those.thebish wrote:hmmmm.... but I don't really see how it makes much sense to "rate" a player by reference to the cost of another bought at a different time and in different circumstances - down that path lies madness - especially when you take Andy Carroll into account...

We've got one of them in Beckford. But you've got to create the chances for him.CrazyHorse wrote:Neither.StaffsTrotter wrote: As BWFCi said would you rather have that or lots of journeymen / kids with potential ?

Same issue as Blackburn are having this season with Jordan Rhodes.
Same issue we had with Anelka for his first 10 games.
It is fine to have goalscorers but unless you supply them the ammunition they're fairly useless.
