Re: Freedman out!
Do we have any indication as to how many times young Douglas takes his cues from Lennie Lawrence? Just wondering aloud, like.
May the bridges I burn light your way

I'd prefer micro paused (pawsed?) dead cat bounce.
You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

I was interested enough to google young Robin Michael Lawrence, and noticed these:
After a short while out of the game he joined Division Two side Cardiff City as a consultant
he was appointed Director of Football at Bristol Rovers, working alongside coach Paul Trollope in a two-tier managerial structure
I know it sheds no light on your question Bruce, but f*ck me, the football world really has money to burn if lower league clubs are willy-nilly appointing directors/consultants/whatever-other-name-they-just-thought-of-to-mean-employee like multi-national businesses. In August 2010 Lawrence joined non-league Carshalton Athletic in a football consultancy role

Re: Freedman out!
Freedman's "dead-cat bounce", as it were, consisted of a home win in his debut game vs Cardiff, followed by a streak of 4 draws before a win at Blackburn. Frustrating to draw so many, but a damn sight better than what went before, where the most we went without a defeat was three games.thebish wrote:ok - a delayed dead-cat bounce!Lord Kangana wrote:I'd say judging by results so far this season it was classic dead cat bounce territory.thebish wrote:Lord Kangana wrote:About 9 places. that'll keep us from going down this time. Just.
i thought that was a good deal later than the period the dead-cat-bounce normally refers to...

The difference Bish is that Coyle used to just keep doing the same things over and over that didn't work.thebish wrote:you USED to think that it was as simple as changing the manager!!BWFC_Insane wrote:
I don't know what the answer is frankly. If we do change manager and it proves to be that simple then I will be delighted. But sadly I highly doubt that is the case.
as it happens - I agree with you - i think we just have to batten down the hatches and wait for the storm to pass... it will - eventually! Dougie is not free from blame for our lack of achievement, though... you USED to say (of dougie) that the players now know what they are doing and what they are supposed to be doing - he had them organised and disciplined into a formation. The opinion of several who go is that the team don't appear to have any idea what they are supposed to be doing...
Dougie is trying different things out. The worry is none of them are working.
So what worries me deeply is what difference a Pulis for example would make. My view is that only a desperate manager would take the job as it is unless Eddie let's them buy players.
LK talks about a relegation fight and I fully get the view that short term results are well dire and we are in trouble. I just feel lurching for a honeymoon period all the time leads eventually to even greater trouble.
Frankly I would be prepared to sacrifice the short term for better long term health. And I do believe in Dougie and his team offering that.
The question is what is Eddie Davies thinking?

At the end of the day, here is the current betting list to be the next Bolton manager...LeverEnd wrote:Pulis is experienced, out of work and has won promotion before. I really don't understand this specific clamour for Pullis to be installed as our manager?!SmokinFrazier wrote:The fact that Pulis has succeeded when he's had money to spend doesn't mean to say he can't have similar success without money.
It's hypothetical anyway as Douglas isn't going anywhere soon, I'd say.
However I'm not keen and would much prefer Dougie to come good. Not looking good right now though.
Tony Pulis
Mick McCarthy
Aidy Boothroyd
Craig Levein
Gus Poyet
Paul Dickov
Rafa Benitez
Derek McInnes
Eddie Howe
Iain Dowie
Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink
Realistically, there isn't much there (although if and when Dougie does go I imagine Jimmy Phillips will be straight in as favourite). Pulis and Poyet are about the only viable options.

Re: Freedman out!
IF we sack Dougie, then it has to be an out of work manager. We can't afford to be paying compensation again.
And fer crying out loud, take Boothroyd off that list. Dan'll have an accident.

He's the reverse hoboh option. He'll keep them in La-z-boy recliners on a concentrated pie, mash and mars bar diet to avoid injury and build them up.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

They don't need to buy new players, they just need to be able to organise the ones we've got.BWFC_Insane wrote:My view is that only a desperate manager would take the job as it is unless Eddie let's them buy players.

Re: Freedman out!
I'm intrigued judging by your above statement you believe our current players are good enough. In which case what level do you think we should finish in this league. Given that the nucleus of the squad was also not performing under Coyle how much blame is down to the manager?BL3 wrote:They don't need to buy new players, they just need to be able to organise the ones we've got.BWFC_Insane wrote:My view is that only a desperate manager would take the job as it is unless Eddie let's them buy players.
Re: Freedman out!
Really?! You can't hnestly believe that the best manager in the world will get that shower promoted. They might have had their day but for many of them it's long gone. Some of them have been shit for us under 3 managers.BL3 wrote:They don't need to buy new players, they just need to be able to organise the ones we've got.BWFC_Insane wrote:My view is that only a desperate manager would take the job as it is unless Eddie let's them buy players.
He should be doing better, no doubt but to suggest it's just managerial and the players are fine is taking Dougie hating into the realms of fantasy.

he's probably thinking all sorts of things - why did I have to be a bolton fan, should have gone to City with me uncle bob, how will I get my money back on this lot, I could do a better job as manager myself.....BWFC_Insane wrote:The difference Bish is that Coyle used to just keep doing the same things over and over that didn't work.thebish wrote:you USED to think that it was as simple as changing the manager!!BWFC_Insane wrote:

In respect of DF, I suspect he's a bit like everybody else and completely shocked & perplexed as to why the wheels have come off in the first place and slowly suspecting that his chief mechanic didn't actually pass his tyre fitting exams
Re: Freedman out!
Higher than we did last season, given that Dougie has apparently 'strengthened' the squad.gizmothevoomer wrote:In which case what level do you think we should finish in this league.
Re: Freedman out!
I don't care if I'm dragged out naked into the town square to be whipped, flogged, kicked and have salt rubbed into the wounds, then my knees drilled with a Black and Decker hammer drill for saying this.
But get Gary Neville in to sort out our feckin' shambles of a defence. And bring that Ole Gunnar Solkskaer to teach our forwards a thing or two. I don't care if they're ex MU; I don't care if they come here on a full or part time basis. Our club needs saving. I wrote something similar 12 months before Coyle went. I asked for him to be replaced. I realy hoped Dougie would be the man to lead us forward again, especially after our finish last term, but if we lose against Derby; he has to go.........
PS. Anyone see Wet Spam this afternoon? Allardyce has turned James Collins into a no nonsense, clear your feckin' lines, don't let 'em through center half. If he can do that, Imagine what he could have done with Zat Knight?
