Watched it last night and thoroughly enjoyed it (to my own suprise). Some woman.jmjhb wrote:It's very good. If you like it, then I recommend a similar French film called 'Anything for Her'.General Mannerheim wrote:I thought it were decent!Bruce Rioja wrote:Coco Before Chanel? How the bleedin' Dickens has that ended up on my list? Actually, I think I know!![]()
Lovefilm sent me a film today too; 'Tell no one' on bluray.
I'll stick that one on my list, jmjhb, and thanks for the recommend.

Watched 'Encounters at the end of the World' on Lovefilm-delivered blu-ray last night. Wasn't great, but I do love Werner Herzog

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Night on Earth proved to be just as outstanding as I remembered from two decades (?) ago. A portmanteau movie consisting of five taxi rides taking place at the same time in five cities - Los Angeles, New York, Paris, Rome and Helsinki (so it's 7.00 pm in LA and 5.00 am in Helsinki) - for, in effect, five short films, in English, French, Italian and Finnish, and, in turn: sharp and satirical; funny and insightful; disturbing and life affirming; hilariously funny, funny, funny and, finally, sad and moving - though, even here, comedy is lurking and refusing to be denied.
And graced also by the tortured, 50-a-day habit, and raw whisky-soaked, voice of Tom Waits, emerging from deep in some gravel pit of oblivion, over titles and, here, closing credits...

Wonderful... when I've posted this I'm going to play Night Hawks at the Diner.
Jarmusch hasn't bettered this before or since. It is outstanding work, wittily sabotaging our common expectations of cinematic storytelling. I think I'll watch again before returning the DVD...
Oh, man...

My mission statement is: Over the winter months - get stuck into the stuff that you've bought but haven't watched. This evening? A Very Long Engagement (Not that I've become infatuated with Audrey Tautou or owt
)

Not that we'd blame you if you had.
Tonight I'm watching my basketball team, the Raptors. I can watch them live y'see, unlike my football team if we're away from home.

Taped 2012, might watch that. Also taped The Trip, Cape Fear and Jurassic Park.
Then again I want to watch Liverpool, but I want to watch the Corrie tram crash too. Dilemma.

watch Liverpool - then you get to see a tram crash too....
Re: What are you watching tonight?
Liverpool is a tram, train, and road crash combined into one, isn't it?

Re: What are you watching tonight?
Watched Garrow's Law. Over-stuffed with story as usual, but still enjoyable. The 12 year old boy with eyes like Bambi sentenced to death was pure Dickensian sentiment.
Way back in Summer a student told me I should catch Sons of Anarchy - all lovers of Sopranos and The Wire were certain to appreciate it.
LoveFilm obliged. I lasted one and a half episodes.
It's dreadful, crude, uninspired shite. Don't waste your time. I'll never get those 90 minutes back...

Shame, it improves towards the end of the first season. Fantastic second season.William the White wrote:
