^^
as regards Davies he certainly hasnt been the player for us his impressive debut suggested he would be. Lots of skill, genuine excitment when he does those surging runs, possibly suffering a little from the quality of his current teammates, but just not enough of a will to win, compete to control a game for me - with his skill and experience he should be bossing games at this level and a nighmare injury record.
Having said all that I don't think the 'we wont miss him' argument holds water. For a few years now we've been going through the death by a thousand cuts, as the quality of the team has reduced with each departure. So I'd rather keep him if we can but if he has to go, he has to go - getting quite a skilful midfield at Wed - Bannans there isnt he. Have a mate who is a Wed fan and he been quite gloomy about their lack of finances for a few years. Even with this latest owner it was a case of foreign coach bringing in lots of unknown foreign players and ticket prices shooting up - but seems to be starting to work for them

Who's gonna replace him? Spearing?
Never get into an argument with an idiot. i'll bring you down to my level and beat you with experience

Is where I'm at. Really rate him, but been dissapointed with him this year, and much rather keep Clough if that were the choice (though would rather keep both).BWFC_Insane wrote:Aye if we weren't broke I'd want to keep him. There are plenty others I'd prefer go ahead of him.
But realistically out of our players who are likely in demand I'd probably rather sell Davies than most of them.
On the wages front, Wednesday are apparently covering all of Hooper's reported 40kpw wages. They've got cash! (They were my outside flutter for the title this year).

Yep. When Heskey scored his first Bolton goal v Blackburn, he later said that only Eidur had the ability to pick him out with that assist. Players like Eidur and Mark Davies don't always perform 9/10 each week, but they've got that quality. The more of these players we lose, the poorer we'll become, especially to watch.Harry Genshaw wrote:^ Agreed Jugs. Clough's first goal v Fulham was from a Davies pass that no-one else in the team could have managed. And very well taken by Clough too. We're about to lose one of the few creative influences in our team.

I don't want to sound overly pessimistic, but I reckon both will be going mate.Prufrock wrote:Is where I'm at. Hooper on 40k a week? JC I'd forgotten how much players are on these days.

I wonder if Eddie will give himself a "transfer success fee" on the Mark Davies sale like he did when he made a profit selling Nicolas Anelka?

Really? Because he owes us some back on some of the absolute shite we've signed since!Martin_Cruise wrote:I wonder if Eddie will give himself a "transfer success fee" on the Mark Davies sale like he did when he made a profit selling Nicolas Anelka?

Never really rated Davies in the sense that he flatters to deceive. Undoubted talent, but his inability to control games when weighed against his alleged ability to control games doesn't and never has stacked up for me. I'd have piggy-backed him down to Swansea for £4m.

Clough hasn't travelled with the squad to Eastleigh. Could be nothing or could be panic stations.

We're doing that one on the Eastleigh thread. What sort of panic do you think losing any of our players could cause over and above the threat of administration?BWFC_Insane wrote:Clough hasn't travelled with the squad to Eastleigh. Could be nothing or could be panic stations.

I get that. I expect us to sell every player we can to be honest.Worthy4England wrote:We're doing that one on the Eastleigh thread. I think it will be a kick in the teeth though. And the debt will still be there and I can't see how it makes us more attractive for a buyer but we've been here before.

Turning down the £5 million ( i thought it was ) from Swansea was one on the craziest decisions ever made by the Eddie and Phil double act.Worthy4England wrote:Never really rated Davies in the sense that he flatters to deceive. That decision was AFTER we'd got relegated and they knew the financial situation the club was in.It beggars belief really that Eddie and Phil rated Mark Davies so highly.Apart from being a sicknote he wasn't even that good.

Re: Spotty's Seriously Sub-standard Second Rate Transfer Thr
The fee is ridiculously low.BWFC_Insane wrote:However, I don't think the fee is that low.
He's 27, shown flashes of brilliance but that is all. He's never consistently been the main man. Never shown the capability for that. He's an attacking midfield player who rarely if ever scores.
Not saying he isn't a decent player but he's never ripped up trees. Lots of potential but it just never materialised. Possibly because of injuries possibly lack of application.
If we weren't broke I'm sure we'd try and sell others first. But I don't think the fee is outlandishly low.
Or are you suggesting that Wednesday looked at him and valued him at 700k then considered our dire financial perils and thought they'd offer full face value?
Cos I reckon they think he's a three million quid kind of player but knew we had no choice but to accept whatever piss take value they'd offer us.
I don't blame them; if the boot were on the other foot we'd do the same. However while he's clearly no world beater, the sour grapes being directed at him is unjustified.
Anyway, c'est la vie. Let's just pay the taxman and live to fight another day.

^I think a million would be about right. If roles were reversed people would worry about paying money for a sick note.

Bid in from somewhere for Clough according Nixon and Iles. Sounds like he is likely to be off.
I realise we simply have no choice but this feels a real sickener. New lows being reached for the club daily it seems right now.

Yep, the one that makes you sick to the stomach. I think it might be Sheffield Wednesday again. feck*.BWFC_Insane wrote:Bid in from somewhere for Clough according Nixon and Iles. Sounds like he is likely to be off.

Nixon tweet: Bolton. Zach Clough. Bid is large. Not sure lad wants to go. Surprise club in for him. Real shock.
