Yes, in 1980, about the time he sold all his gear off, Will. No real interest in his religious leanings, just like his music. Always have done.William the White wrote:I wonder if Cat's done the hajj yet. Apparently when he converted he became, as many converts do, rather zealous and he decided he wanted nothing more from his previous, sullied, life. He rejected his Worldly goods and said he wished to give away the rights to all his songs and albums from that life.TANGODANCER wrote:Yes, in 1980, about the time he sold all his gear off, Will. Chris Blackwell of Island Records took possession of them and some years later when Yussef thought more of it and was telling Blackwell that he'd been rash (as the money they were worth could go to good Muslim causes ... & maybe a bit for himself) he produced all the papers & accounts and presented them to him. He'd simply held onto them, collected whatever monies arose and kept them for the day he felt would always come.
Top man Chris Blackwell.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

I can't not listen to Cat Stevens just because he's a muslim, much like I can't not listen to Beck because he's a Scientologist, or occasionally even listen to Ignition (remix) by R Kelly because he allegedly pissed on a minor.

I've always listened to him because I like his music. The rest is immaterial. It has to be or we'd never listen to anybody.Beefheart wrote:I can't not listen to Cat Stevens just because he's a muslim, much like I can't not listen to Beck because he's a Scientologist, or occasionally even listen to Ignition (remix) by R Kelly because he allegedly pissed on a minor.

Bastille.
They're trendie-indie feckers with a shit name who I want to hate, but I really like their music. See: Two Door Cinema Club.

Also, having been really disappointed with the previous two, I fcuking adore the Arctic Monkeys' new album. It's weird, eclectic and glorious.

Compay Segundo and Buena Vista Social Club. Guantanamera always raises the mood.

Re: What are you playing tonight?
I was lucky enough to see the full ensemble in Manchester before the originals all passed away. Phenomenal talent on show, a stage full of it. Fantastic night.clapton is god wrote:That gets a regular play in our house too.TANGODANCER wrote:Compay Segundo and Buena Vista Social Club. Guantanamera always raises the mood.

The polar opposite of the utter C**t who controlled Marc Bolan's estate and served eviction papers on Gloria and Roland two days after the fatefull car crash. I know MB's brother, in a 'hi how you doing?' kind of way. For all the hits, the money generated etc, Harry (brother) owns a pair of boots Marc wore on tour. ALL monies still go into the acount of the C**t. If you do anything in your life, don't buy anything by T Rex or Marc Bolan. 'Cos his family don't receive a penny, and it makes my feckin' blood boil.................

I'm doing exactly the same thing...........
Re: What are you playing tonight?
I went right off them after the first album but heard a song the other day on the radio and was thinking how good it was, before being surprised to hear it was them. So based on that and your recommendations I'll give it a listen.Il Pirate wrote:Prufrock wrote:AM, again. I can't remember the last time I just played an album over and over again. Just watching Later with JH from earlier in the week. The National - worth further investigation?

Will deffo be checking them out further, Endo. On first listen - very appealing on the ear. The National are back on now - will investigate further, but still rather unsure.LeverEnd wrote:My cousin has been raving about this band, also highlighted that London Grammar are on Jools, never heard of them but will check out on catch up.Bruce Rioja wrote:Just watching Later with JH from earlier in the week. The National's closing song 'Graceless' has just blown me away. The album 'Trouble Will Find Me' is now on order.LeverEnd wrote:My cousin has been raving about this band, also highlighted that London Grammar are on Jools, never heard of them but will check out on catch up.Bruce Rioja wrote:Just watching Later with JH from earlier in the week.
