Re: Jaffka's gossip thread on the ins and outs at the 'Bok
Have to say, I'm not really. He was OK but I rarely saw him at right back when we were defending. He always drifted off into the centre leaving any left winger with miles of space. Blackpool away last season comes to mind.Mar wrote:Sad to see Steinsson go.
I wanna see young Riley take that right back spot next season.

Kind of. Because of he met the criteria uin terms of appearances, it means we're compelled to offer him a new contract. It's up to him if he wants that option.BWFC_Insane wrote:I thought his deal renewed automatically cos he played more than the threshold of games?boltonboris wrote:Petrov has agreed a deal It's going to be signed imminently
Heard half an hour ago, that it's still up in the air.

Marc Iles is saying Petrov is under contract here. Which suggests it was sorted out........boltonboris wrote:Kind of. That looks about right to me. If we have Petrov too that sounds good (not that I know much about any of the kids).Dr Hotdog wrote:Hot off the press:
Bolton Wanderers have today announced their retained list following the end of the 2011/12 season.
Kevin Davies has signed a new one-year contract until the summer of 2013 and Sam Ricketts has signed a new two-year deal until the summer of 2014.
Discussions regarding new contracts with Jussi Jaaskelainen and Zat Knight are on-going.
Gretar Steinsson, Paul Robinson, Sean Davis, Robbie Blake, Ricardo Gardner, Ivan Klasnic, Mark Connolly, Tope Obadeyi, Rhys Bennett, Dino Fazlic and Tom Eckersley have all left the football club after their contracts expired.
Tuncay, Dedryck Boyata and Ryo Miyaichi have all returned to their respective parent clubs following the completion of their loans spells.
Nigel Reo-Coker has decided to activate a release clause in his contract.
No mention of Petrov.....?
The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

If Petrov stays then NRC apart it's as good as we could have hoped.
Shame about Steiner but it was on the cards as he & St Owen clearly didn't admire each others life-styles methinks.
No Jussi name in that list either.

Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

If Petrov stays, that's an unexpected bonus.
If Zat Knight stays, that's an unexpected disaster. Absolute liability. Joint top priority is to replace him with an experienced defender who knows how to mark/tackle/head the ball.
Alongside an energetic midfielder who knows how to press/tackle/pass the ball.

Petrov has to stay the 3rd year kicks in automatically.... he could ask to be released, but why would he? He'll be playing Championship level or lower next year back in Bulgaria anyhow and earning a lot less than Championship level in England...

Zat Knight is no Gary Cahill granted, but he's definitely not a Paul Robinson either. He may have a error in him every now and again, one that can often leads to a goal scoring oppurtunity, but he has never really been targeted specifically by opposition strikers in the premier league and I doubt he will in the championship. At reduced wages we could do ALOT worse and think he should be given a clear slate in partnering Ream, tbh we dont have many other options.

Re: Jaffka's gossip thread on the ins and outs at the 'Bok
Sort out the left back slot (chelsea lad?) so Ricketts can be an option in the centre, add another centre half and then the defence is looking OK to get us challenging. Clearly not good enough for the PL though so this will need to be addressed if we get back up.

Wanderers player contracts include a drastic reduction in pay if relegated.thebish wrote:ohjimmyjimmy wrote:Improvment on current deal or improvement on the lower terms we offered him?thebish wrote:according to Puskas (under a different name and in a different place)
the BeN says we are offering Zat an improved deal to save us the bother of looking for a new player...
to be fair - the bit about an improved deal is just speculation by Nick Jackson!

Perhaps Zat is looking at an improvement on that reduced amount - not an improvement on his PL wages - which he would not get .
What goes around may still come around
Re: Jaffka's gossip thread on the ins and outs at the 'Bok
Had a lot of time for Steinsson especially when he first came in, I remember he helped us look a lot more solid - was it the 0-0 at Newcastle where he made his debut? Then we went on a decent run drawing with Fulham and beating Reading away without conceding.
In the end though I think he covered up a lot of his failings with trying to be a more and more vocal cheerleader for the fans, he didnt half like a shout and a gurn at the crowd!
I wish him all the best though

a name touted in january transfer window - KYLE MCFADZEAN , tough young central defender for Crawley. Should not cost too much , right age too improve at this level.
Any takers ???

Yep - though I think there's a bit behind the scenes with Gretar that perhaps we don't know about. He seems to be "injured" too often.Bruce Rioja wrote:Me too. Can't believe we're letting him go but are in discussions with one of the worst 'defenders' in history!Mar wrote:Sad to see Steinsson go.
