Re: The athletics/running thread
Wait and see how bad it is tomorrow. I'd get pretty used to the idea of not triple-jumping next week though. I've done the same thing twice. Both times it had swollen badly a couple of hours later and I could barely walk. First time I didn't do anything for 4 weeks, the second 5. Hopefully your own swelling/ability to walk will give you an idea if you're better or worse than the 4 week ball park.
And take ibuprofen. Fingers crossed it's only a twinge!

Re: The athletics/running thread
How long ago did you do it? About 4 hours after I'd done mine the leg in question looked twice the size of the other and while I could walk, stairs and any bending were agony.
If you're better than that you might be out for less time. Though I am younger than you
.
Yes to rice, and take the ibuprofen for the swelling.

Hey, hey, hey! Less of your cheek young man!Prufrock wrote:How long ago did you do it? About 4 hours after I'd done mine the leg in question looked twice the size of the other and while I could walk, stairs and any bending were agony.

About an hour and a half ago, don't think it's going to swell up, fingers crossed. Doesn't sound as serious as yours. Will double check on the ibuprofen as breastfeeding and it's quite limited as to what drugs you can take. I've just realised I was playing against some kids half my age, still at college, now I feel old! Clearly I can't hack the pace any longer!

Unlucky. Always depends how badly it's pulled. I'd rest and ice it for a few days then try a jog once you can walk without feeling it. I usually take 3 months off for a 3 week injury but that's because I'm a lazy bastard!Gooner Girl wrote:Back to football today for first time in ages. Pre season training. Fitness work at first which was exhausting but fine, but then when we went into a game I managed to do myself an injury. I've never even had a proper injury before, is this what happens when you get old?I turned and accelerated after the ball and pulled a muscle in my quad. Bit gutted to be honest - I guess I will have to rest it - for how long? I was going to swim tomorrow but more importantly I really wanted to triple jump in a competition next week. How long do these things take to heal?

I don't think it's that badly pulled, I wouldn't want to run on it but I can walk relatively pain free (except when going up and down the stairs) Triple Jump is 2 weeks time not 1 so maybe I have a chance still.
Re: The athletics/running thread
I was following instructions on the last injury! Plus the stuff in one day was all different. And it's better now. Still doing rehab exercises and drills. I'm going to start running again but not race. Hope you're better soon.

Perhaps you should diversify and take up field athletics instead?!LeverEnd wrote:I was following instructions on the last injury! Plus the stuff in one day was all different. And it's better now. You've no how idea how inept I am at all field events. One foot in front of the other is the extent of my coordination and that's a struggle!

Just wait until middle age. I get injuries getting off the sofa that take weeks to healGooner Girl wrote:Back to football today for first time in ages. Pre season training. Re: The athletics/running thread
Looks like I might have a minor strain. I'm sure I can probably fix it with a bag of frozen peas and a tea towel. However, are there any fellow amateurs on here that know of a trained athletics coach who I can ask about treatment / recovery time / that kind of thing ? Cheers.

I think, Bruce, that depends on your age. Are you old ??Bruce Rioja wrote:Looks like I might have a minor strain. I'm sure I can probably fix it with a bag of frozen peas and a tea towel. Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.
