Re: The athletics/running thread
I saw that on FB the other day. I was tempted, but having only managed 3 runs since January I was planning on running Tuesday/Thursday before PR on Saturday. I'm tempted again now!Harry Genshaw wrote:Wish I had. Was supposed to be walking the first 2 of the 3 peaks but for one reason and another it never happened. If you're home this week you not fancy Curlys 5k series which starts on Wednesday? It's on the trails round there but I don't know the exact route. Bruce, BP ?LeverEnd wrote:
Caught the end of the Pike race Saturday, did you not fancy it? Or were you on some ultra odyssey?
I've still not done a fell race, but am thinking about a MT race in Holmfirth in a few weeks with plenty of climbing. Work my way up to it.

Re: The athletics/running thread
That's the one! 4 days in a row now I've woken up thinking, "I can breathe through my nose, it's finally shifting" only for it to claw it's way back through the day. Now my left ear is bunged up like I've been on a plane. Guy at work knows someone who's had it 3 weeks, and another EIGHT! Bolleaux to that!Bruce Rioja wrote:Aye, got off of a plane with that whole stinging sinus business going on and thought - here we go. Thing is, every morning I wake up thinking 'yeay, it's gone, I'll go for a run' only to get up and realise that the fecking thing's far from gone!Prufrock wrote:You and all? I've had what I imagine to be the same f*cker 10 days and no sign of shifting it.Bruce Rioja wrote:Haven't ran in 3 weeks, Harry. Just can't shift this bastard of a cold. Has there ever actually been a time when we've all been fit at the same time?Harry Genshaw wrote:Oh eck! I was only thinking how good (& odd) it was for those of us who post on this thread to be all fit and running at the same time. On behalf of all dog owners LE - sorryhope it soon rights itself

I'm not around this week but maybe one of the later ones. Physio Thurs on dodgy knee, but it's feeling much better. Went to her the other week after falling off a fence going for a drunken piss and hurting the same knee. Physios must love me.Harry Genshaw wrote:^ Go on! I'd definitely recommend it. A proper good race, pretty tough and a bit muddy through Wilderswood. Spoke to your mate, PirloLeverEnd wrote:I'm not around this week but maybe one of the later ones. Re: The athletics/running thread
After my Ireland ventures last weekend the latter half of this week has been back on programme.
Thursday 6 mile run
Friday 1550m swim
Saturday 9 mile run
Today 40 mile bike
My bike tempo was pleasing. After my bike fit and a service my pace average is up by 3km/hr

Re: The athletics/running thread
That much difference from a bike fit? Mines completely wrong but I'm. Not shelling out for a fit til I'm sure I can be bothered to ride it regularly! Need to though, still can't run a week after encountering that bastard dog.Gary the Enfield wrote:After my Ireland ventures last weekend the latter half of this week has been back on programme.

It may have been the company I had too but yes, 24km to 27km/ hr avg. over 40 miles.
I had an encounter with a dog on my long run on a Saturday. Beagle came bounding up barking whilst the two guys with it were laughing and saying 'it's alright mate, it won't hurt you' fecking thing nearly tripped me up and I responded with 'put it on a fecking lead!' I got 50 yards up the road and formulated what I should have said which was 'put it on a lead or you'll be picking up it's teeth as well as it's shit you selfish nice person spatula'. I'm saving it for next time.

you should have ran back after them - shouted that - then run off again!Gary the Enfield wrote:LeverEnd wrote:That much difference from a bike fit? Mines completely wrong but I'm. Dagnabbit! Why didn't I think of that?
Re: The athletics/running thread
i did the couuch to 5k a few years ago - and was regularly running 5k (3 times a week) - until my right knee started to be painful - and I jacked it in... (right knee is still sometimes painful when descending steep slopes or coming down long flights of steps...)
anyway - several people have told me it was probably all my fault for not going to one of those trainer-shops that does video-gair analysis - and that I was probably using the wrong trainers.. Now I am moving house to a flatter area I am toying with the idea of starting up again - and so i am thinking about this advice I have been given re. trainers and the wrong/right sort...
I also remember it being discussed on here..
but then i read stuff like this - from a bloke who sounds like he knows what he's talking about..
http://runnersconnect.net/running-injur ... -footwear/
so - who do I believe?
(I am also tempted NOT to do the what seems to me high-impact sport of running and do more cycling... which also benefits from a flatter area!)

Re: The athletics/running thread
I think it's very hit and miss in the shops. I go to a podiatrist which is more expensive but worth it in the long run. I have deformed feet and it's podiatrists more than physios who have enabled me to keep running of sorts.
