Certainly don't want us to get beat, but I might see the possibility of more upsides than normal should it occur.

The problem I have is, after Ian's just very publicly aired his linen on the lines of "someone tell me that they love me" - what with proclamations about needing to talk to the Board 5 games in - and getting the backing, removing some of the road crew (if the reports are to be believed) etc. That would now maybe look like more of a knee jerk than it would've last week.

In the event, I think we win this one. After all, Ian's had a little Board cuddle now - talks about the team needing to be brave, back themselves, be confident - well Ian - tone comes from the top, mate, running to check with your Mum that you're still ok only sends out the message that maybe you're not.

Not sure how anyone can truthfully answer that without the question of personal dislike overpowering reason? A manager who almost got us promoted being replaced by a blind man's bluff, maverick gamble? Doesn't promise much if anything other than possibly lucky dip odds on success. For me, this is a real "Devil you know" situation versus baby and bath water option. My own answer wold be that defeat is no answer to anything except maybe landing on a snake when a ladder is an option. Ian Evatt has failings, who doesn't, but he almost got us there. That was a better result than most of the available queue of grail-quest Sir Gallahads. I've already stated a possible personal choice ( Kevin Nolan) if the axe should fall. I'd rather it didn't. I do think Evatt is a different case than some. Sometimes, you're seeing something where it's pretty obvious (as an opinion) that Manager X is getting you relegated. At that point maybe you do sometimes think "They've got to be out, if they lose this next one."

I certainly don't dislike Evatt, personally (Never met the bloke).Takes too much effort. That's not the same thing at all as me not being convinced he's the guy taking us up, or not liking possession football the way we execute it, or any one of a number of things I yhink we've been deficient on.

I also don't think he's done a bad job (in the round) and I don't think he's taking us down, albeit like he says winning is a habit, so's losing. I wouldn't have expected losing to Charlton and Exeter. You could see the possibility with Hudds, but that was a mauling. His yardstick is promotion, not we avoided relegation. This year, with the improve every year narrative, there is ONLY promotion that would do that, although a shock FA Cup win would probably get him another year.

Almost got us there and got us there aren't the same thing. The miss is as good as a mile.

I'd never want to see us lose but equally I'm not sure a win on Saturday will shift the dark cloud that Evatt referred to. For any of us.

Speaking of dark clouds, perhaps it's as well we're playing Reading this weekend. They're certainly one group of fans at the moment who could say;

Ultimately yes. Personally speaking he was right though. Whilst I still love going to games some of that enthusiasm has certainly been dampened since Wembley. Despite the large crowds, superb for division 3, you could detect a more subdued atmosphere for Wrexham & Huddersfield, compared to last year's league games.

But when we do not have one combined with an arrogance and unpleasantness I’m afraid I won’t be.

Even fewer can say they sacked their staff to save their own skin.

In an even smaller club of Bolton managers who managed the club in the lower leagues for an extended period.

No he’ll be giving it large after we win tomorrow. But the thought that we will waste another season down here on an ego is painful. I can’t put it any other way.
