Got some mates who are up for it too. We've decided we're doing a half marathon followed by a gallon challenge, lowest combined time wins.Harry Genshaw wrote:Good manBeefheart wrote:Registered and paid before I had chance to talk myself out of it.![]()
£30 is pretty steep but I reckon it will be worth it. We're away on the 4th so I can't join you or cheer you on. Good luck!

Worsley Woods would be a great one for that, for the pair of you. No need to thank me.Bruce Rioja wrote:Are we popping our parkrun cherry at some point soon, Beefo?

Probably, it's just I like to do a long run on a Saturday, I suppose I could do the 5k and then just keep going.Bruce Rioja wrote:Are we popping our parkrun cherry at some point soon, Beefo?

Re: The athletics/running thread
Last night I was fairly uniquely privileged to help a friend. Over the last few years he has run 99 marathons and ultra marathons of up to 50 miles. To celebrate his milestone 100th run be decided to run a 100 mile race up the Thames path from Richmond to Oxford. Rules state that after 50 miles he's allowed a pacer and so a number of us joined him in relay overnight. I did the first shift of 7 miles from Henley to Reading. He finished this morning in 22hrs 20 mins. His target was sub 24hrs. It was, as I say, a fairly unique privilege for me and a fantastic acheivement for him.
Just remembered I saw a Darwen Dasher at Henley too so he got a big cheer from me.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Well into Wk. 10 of training now and halfway towards my date with destiny.
Tuesday saw my first open water swim since Sept. '15
It waa part of an Aquathlon series I've done every year since 2013. 500m swim then a 5.5km run. I try to get under 40 mins. Did it in 39.08. Happy to get the swim out of the way and pleased that I felt strong on the run.

Just got back from the Tour d'Essex. 124km in 4hrs30 ish
Avg. pace 27km/hr.
It's the furthest I've cycled. Knackered now.
Good average for Bolton (only another 60km)

Didn't run in the end, G. Played cricket today - we lost but I've now really realised how much I've missed playing, especially as the guys on the team are such a superb bunch. Somethings never change though - the shots I hit off of the middle of the bat have left no marks whatsoever, not so the thick-as-4uck inside edge I hit.Gary the Enfield wrote:Did you make it out? Only one downside is the agony the outside of my right foot was in coming off the bike. I think my shoe must have been too tight. Took about 2 hours after before I could bear any weight on it. It's absolutely fine this morning but if that happens on the day of the race.....
Just need to practice with the straps a little looser.

Re: The athletics/running thread
Thanks everyone. Just done a one hour turbo session with looser straps and ran 2 miles off it with no pain. Phew!
Now for a 2.5km swim. Adios!
