It'd take pages to list the health benefits of good quality unpasteurised sheeps and goats cheese.
Roquefort could be the most dangerous food in the world and would still be worth risking...

Anyway who is dissing it?

is it mentioned in the Governments new obesity strategy - the one that says we should all take a good look at ourselves and be more honest about what we eat - and we should eat less and exercise more and relax regulation on the food industry?

Newsnight of all people in the first instance.

But in brief..

The announcement today about the government trying to attack obesity is just the latest in the series of long running battles. It would come as no surprise that this particular shade believe it to be individual responsibility. Now on the surface, that would seem to fit in with their general MO of "small government". I suspect mummy would agree with this analysis.

However, the real reason behind it is the sheer power of what we would see as the fast food industry. About 6 years ago the previous governement actually tried to legislate their way out of our obesity crisis, and failed miserably. Thats why now, for example, pineapples and mangoes are considered the same as high sugar soft drinks, or that cheese (good quality) is lumped in with crap cheese, and indeed with burgers and kebabs.

Now, poor science would back this up, but there is a mountain of data to show that not the calorific content, but the source of the calories, actually affects what food is doing to your body. So a couple of quick anecdotes, because it would take pages to explain this in full, but firstly the dry matter in unpasteurised cheese actually absorbs a great deal of the saturated fat that it is attached to and passes it through your system. So in a lab, a block of roquefort will have the same burning capabilities (for the purpose of calculating calories) as a crap cheese slices but, and this is the really important bit, in your body it won't work the same way.

Secondly, as an example, duck is a very fatty meat. But it is mostly made up of mono-unsaturated fat, which is at worst neutral to your body, and at best helps to lower yuor cholestorol. The problem is, all fats are classed the same in a lab.

I'll finish now, and hope you've made it this far!

Roquefort makes a proper cheeseburger. I don't know if that helps, but it is a-ma-zing. And it's shit hot for pasta sauces too. And on its own.

I'm sick and tired of companies doing that. If they want to charge you a price, it should just bloody say so.
In the end, she paid £40.50 for the £35 tickets. I hope its worth it!

So 15% extra of the original advertised value? It should be outlawed as far as I'm concerned.

I will remain more curious as to whether you get a go for your generosity, tbh.

A good friend and former colleague of mine hanged himself this morning. I am absolutely gutted, never been so gutted for many years. I am also angry about it, yes. He had three young children and many friends all of whom would have helped in the blink of an eye if only he had told one of us he was hurting. He didn't. He kept whatever it was to himself.

:(

Sorry to hear that Clapton, that's terrible. A friend of mine did the same a few years ago. I gave up after a while trying to make sense of it.

Yes, same here Clapton, some things you just can't work out :-(

And sometimes, things you can't solve, even by listening :-(

Sorry to hear of your loss bud.

Commiserations Clapton, terrible thing to happen. The man must have been in a real low state of depression to do that. His family must be totally distraught. There are no words I can offer that will help.
