very good, Tango!
why is it, though - that it is so outrageous that someone might not like MORSE!!
I don't like Only Fools and bloody Horses either - or the Goons - stuff that it seems almost compulsory to like!

Ah, but that's not what you asked Bish.thebish wrote:why is it, though - that it is so outrageous that someone might not like MORSE!!

was your question. Which is quite different. There you were suggesting that no-one should want to watch it ..... dictating the game. Where now you're asking why you HAVE to, with which I empathise.why would anyone want to watch MORSE???
Switching frrom attack to defence quicker than Bolton do.
ps. I don't 'get' the Goons either. So you aren't on your own.
Not advocating mass-murder as an entirely positive experience, of course, but it had its moments.

Worthy compared Taggart to the news at 10
so I responded by comparing MORSE to 4 episodes of countryfile with a radio three soundtrack...
Worthy then asked why he'd want to do that
and I converted his question ("that" being my MORSE equivalent) to "why would anyone want to watch MORSE"
so - it was Worthy who turned the defense into the attack if you look at it in a certain unclear, vague dim and slightly skewed light!

anyway - we all know that MORSE was two hours of tedious, bloated, formulaic, sleep-inducing monotony...
Re: What are you watching tonight?
PS..
did anyone else think that having John Thaw's daughter play the girl who talked about horoscopes and then asks young MORSE if they had met before - and young MORSE to reply "maybe in another life" was an injection of up-it's-own-arseishness slightly too far??
other than that - I enjoyed it and didn't fall asleep!

Aaaah. I wondered which character his daughter played. Still can't place her though.thebish wrote:PS..

Yes, btw.

Must confess when John Thaw's face appeared in the rear-view mirror, at the end, I got a bit of a shiver.

Not so. I like Strictly Come Dancing, Narnia and Jane Austen. You just got to have the balls to admit it and stick with it.thebish wrote:very good, Tango!

But Morse is still the best detective fiction on TV. In reading material I'm a big fan of Ian Rankin (Rebus) and Quintin Jardine (Skinner), although TV's Rebus, Ken Scott, is a big let down in the part. My favourite P.I is Robert Parker's "Spenser".

There's some bollocks being "quoted" here. (But I can understand why)thebish wrote:nearly.. but a little more subtle!bobo the clown wrote:Ah, but that's not what you asked Bish.thebish wrote:why is it, though - that it is so outrageous that someone might not like MORSE!!

Worthy did not compare Taggart (which Worthy also watches) to News at 10. In response to you comment that you like your drama grittier, I said why not watch News at 10.
You then wandered off into Countryfile etc.
I asked why I'd want to do that when I know I'm watching something that's not meant to be real (I.e it's a fiction so for me doesn't require "gritty").
Anyhow, strikes me that you do have a point about tedious, bloated and formulaic...It perfectly describes your response, every time someone dares to discuss Morse (or Midsomer).

Just watched Darren Aronofsky's 'Pi'. Weird stuff but absolutely compelling too.

May the bridges I burn light your way
Re: What are you watching tonight?
Bruce's review sums up most of Aronofsky's work in a nutshell.
