There are so many questions to be asked about the final few games that I've given up analyzing it. Que sera, sera. I am optimistic though and I think every single game we play from now to the end of the season is winnable. I don't think we will win all but I'm not writing us off either. I'm really pleased we don't have games against top teams in good form, like City too.

Looking at everyone else's fixtures, you can't rule them out. We've seen hugely unexpected wins in the past few weeks. Had everything gone to plan, QPR would have lost to Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool. Wigan would have lost to Arsenal, United and Liverpool too, and both those teams would only be on 25 points, 8 behind us having played a game more. The season is so unpredictable that it's fruitless overanalyzing the fixture list.

Despite all the unpredictability, I'm glad we're in the position we are. A game in hand, the best fixture list on paper and on a good run of form.

And against whom would you say we were most likely to get those six points?

Not "are we?" but ""against whom?"

In order of likelihood (most to least) I'd say Spurs, Sunderland, West Brom, Stoke. Just so y'know.
said it already (before Villa) -we'll win our away games- lose or draw at home.

Sunderland an away banker- lump on.
we'll then sink in our home games on our surge of optimism

When I was particularly nervous about the relegation run-in, I tried predicting the last 10 games or so for the 5 teams at the bottom (didn't count on Villa at the time.) I've only made 14 of them correctly.

On the plus side we're 6 points ahead of schedule. :D Unfortunately so are QPR and Wigan.

Summary=predictions are fairly fruitless.

Could it possibly depend on the predictor? :wink:

Level now with QPR who play Chelsea, Stoke and City.

If we can't better their points return from those threes fixture we deserve everything that we get.

If they get beat by Blackburn and Wolves continue their strange goal-scoring form from today- Wigan could still go down.

Which would be hilarious.

Anything can happen if they start thinking they're safe. The run of results they've made though have been head-melting.

I think 4 points from the next 3 games will be enough. In that scenario Blackburn would need to win all their remaining games to overtake us. Seven points to equal us. They have Spurs and Chelsea away so that seems fairly unlikely imo.

Wigan only need one more point in that scenario as their goal difference is much better than ours. I think they're basically safe atm.

Villa likewise would only need one point. As the leagues draw specialist I can easily see that happening.

That leaves QPR who would need to equal our points total. Away at Chelsea and City. If they get one draw out of those two I think we're gone. The Chelsea game is key, a derby game with all the Ferdinand stuff could really motivate them. I don't think I'm watching that one........

Just checking BBC, really hope Chelsea do us a favour today.
Looks like Jose Bosingwa will play in the centre of defence with John Terry.
Nevermind. :hang:

I was as anxious to hear Chelsea's starting line up today as I even have been with our own, apart from Bosingwa as centre back it looks good;

01 Cech, 03 Cole,17 Bosingwa, 19 Ferreira, 26 Terry, 05 Essien, 08 Lampard, 09 Torres, 10 Mata, 21 Kalou, 23 Sturridge

Come on Sturridge!!!
