Shooting apart, he looked quite lively tonight . Hope he's got a bit left for next week.Sponge wrote:From the BBC: "Bulgaria's only attacking weapon was the wayward shooting of Martin Petrov."

Re: Cahill vs Petrov
Pleased as punch. First time in my lifetime a Bolton player has scored for England. Hopefully this will cement his place in the side.
Maybe now Wenger and Redknapp might accept that he's worth a bit more than their paltry offers.

Re: Cahill vs Petrov
Its interesting that we were a far better side under Sam (in terms of results, most certainly), yet our Englishmen nary got a sinff.
Coyle steps in and two of our players are capped.
Now, is this because of the perception of "how" we play the game now, as opposed to then, or are Cahill and Davies markedly better players then say Nolan and Davies were?

You can judge the whole world on the sparkle that you think it lacks.
Yes, you can stare into the abyss, but it's staring right back.

We didn't have a player anywhere near as good as Cahill then. And Kev to be fair has never really been what you'd call a natural international. He has been unlucky over the years though not to get a few more caps!Lord Kangana wrote:Its interesting that we were a far better side under Sam (in terms of results, most certainly), yet our Englishmen nary got a sinff.

Gahill with a blindfold on is markedly better than Kolan ever was.

I'm not sure I agree. They had different roles and comparisons are difficult. Nolan was unlucky to play in Lumpard/StevieMe era. They were always picked, though as far as I can see they did very little in England's shirt.Wandering Willy wrote:Gahill with a blindfold on is markedly better than Kolan ever was.

Re: Cahill vs Petrov
i would't go that far two different players
nolan at the height of his form was unlucky not to get capped for england
as already been mentioned it's probaby because it was in big sams era if owen coyle was manager i would argue he would of got capped
but we will never no

Re: Cahill vs Petrov
I've just seen the goal. There was huge pressure on him from the defender and the goalkeeper coming out. But he still manages to get a toe on it and somehow it goes in. It was a decent pass but there was still a lot to do!
On a side note I don't go to that many matches (see username) so when I do I tend to make a day of it and hang out in Horwich for a while. I'm sure all the players do this but when I'm walking past the hotel a few hours after the match it's generally GC I see in a suit signing autographs. I can't remember him saying anything negative in the media. Seems like a model pro, thoroughly decent chap and I'm very happy for him!

The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.

Re: Cahill vs Petrov
Last Wanderer to score for England was Ray Parry according to today's Bolton News:
"And it didn't take Cahill long to notch up another milestone, as he chested down Gareth Barry's clipped cross from a half-cleared corner before tapping it past the keeper to become the first Wanderers man since Ray Parry in November 1959 to score for his country."

Exactly what I said; Gary tool his goal like a centre forward not a centre back.plymouth wanderer wrote:Most CB would of headed that but not gaz brings it down and puts it away like a centre forward
Dead proud of the lad tonight, proper professional performance, showed exactly how much he's worth too.
hopefully this should set him up for the wales game and a blinder against manure!

Cahill's Goal

Re: Cahill vs Petrov
Felt good to really cheer an England goal again.
Re: Cahill vs Petrov
It's fair to say that when Gazza returns next Wednesday he'll be absolutely euphoric, and when people are in that state of mind they tend to work their proverbials off, and work well.
So this should give the Bolton team quite a lift, which is great considering that Gazza was more than likely on a bit of a downer when the transfer window closed.

Re: Cahill vs Petrov
Read a couple of media reports today and they're all very Cahill positive. Nice to see one of our lads getting the praise for a change. Who were the groundsmen by the way, The Worzels?
