Sam Ricketts has his say. FWIW Knight said similar in an interview earlier in the week.

Re: Dougie
I'd be wary of reading too much anti-Coylism into those quotes. Ricketts is full of praise for the current manager, which you'd expect, and the tale is top-spun to compare the two managers, but the only direct quote which is even vaguely anti-Coyle is "if the gaffer had come in earlier then it might have been a different story".

Re: Dougie
To reprise the Rule of DSB: concentrate on the actual quotes. They're not always gospel - you might not know the context – but they're usually sacrosanct and are rarely tampered with. The rest is frequently spin to suit the journo's needs.throwawayboltonian wrote:You're right, very true. Re: Dougie
Also it's quite possible that Ricketts had a lot of respect for Coyle as a manager, and that he thought that things were going downhill and needed changing.Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:To reprise the Rule of DSB: concentrate on the actual quotes. You can think the world of a coach but then be surprised how a new one changes things ad makes you think about your sport in different ways. Doesn't necessarily make you 'anti' the last coach.

Re: Dougie
just a guess - but I imagine that early in his tenure you could find players making similar statements about how it had all changed for the better under Coyle after Megson had gone....

Indeed - and in Megson's early days there will probably have been "we all know what we're doing now" type noises...thebish wrote:just a guess - but I imagine that early in his tenure you could find players making similar statements about how it had all changed for the better under Coyle after Megson had gone....

the real collector's item would be such a statement in the early days (as if there were many later ones!) of Little Sam's reign with players proclaiming that now Big Sam was gone they all knew what they were doing....

I remember Gartie himself saying it was like a breath of fresh air to be rid of that nasty BSA with his boring football (paraphrasing).thebish wrote:Dave Sutton's barnet wrote:Indeed - and in Megson's early days there will probably have been "we all know what we're doing now" type noises...thebish wrote:just a guess - but I imagine that early in his tenure you could find players making similar statements about how it had all changed for the better under Coyle after Megson had gone....

The players you fail to sign never lose you any money.
Re: Dougie
Should we be worried about Everton potentially making a move for Dougie once the dust settles on the Moyes to Man Utd move?

Only if they can fight off Wolves and Blackburn for him.Dr Hotdog wrote:Should we be worried about Everton potentially making a move for Dougie once the dust settles on the Moyes to Man Utd move?

I would think Martinez will get the Job. Mark Hughes has thrown his hat in the ring but I cant see past Martinez if he wants it.Dr Hotdog wrote:Should we be worried about Everton potentially making a move for Dougie once the dust settles on the Moyes to Man Utd move?
Re: Dougie
I was thinking that, but stranger things have happened in football. Dingbat Dave Whelan paints Martinez as one of the great club managers in the modern game. Re: Dougie
Everton have to be very careful here.
I think we'll see the extent of the good job that Moyes did, when the new guy comes in and screws them good and proper.
Someone like Hughes...

Re: Dougie
I'd like to be a fly on the wall for Mark Hughes interview at Everton.
"Now you'll have a limited budget to work with Mark. Tell us how that worked out for you at QPR"

"Get your feet off the furniture you Oxbridge tw*t. You're not on a feckin punt now you know"

Mick McCarthy is the obvious stand out candidate.Dr Hotdog wrote:Should we be worried about Everton potentially making a move for Dougie once the dust settles on the Moyes to Man Utd move?

No, it depends who wins the next game.Worthy4England wrote:Mick McCarthy is the obvious stand out candidate.Dr Hotdog wrote:Should we be worried about Everton potentially making a move for Dougie once the dust settles on the Moyes to Man Utd move?
Could be Mad Mick, but equally, Sean Dyche, Henning Berg, Michael Appleton. Mark Robins and Dean Saunders are all in contention. Just depends who wins next......

Re: Dougie
Freedman is nowhere near good enough for a club like Everton yet. He's a flawed manager right now but hopefully he'll continue to learn and in a years time, he'll prove that by getting us promoted. If a big club signed him tomorrow, it'd be like Chelsea signing a 17 year old prospect and expecting him to play every game. It's just not the right time yet.
